Icing on inside car windows -not cake!!!

Hi Everyone! Left my 2013 Mazda 3 in the driveway for a couple of hours in bitter cold weather and noticed the inside windows were all iced up. There was no frost on the outside. My floor mats were dry, no cracks in windows and they were closed. What could the cause be and about how much to fix?

Its still Water vapor in the air freezing. It's usually from wet mats but since yours are dry, try parking with the windows cracked for a bit to get some of the humidity out.

It doesn't help that we also went from 10°C wet weather to another deep freeze. Likely the culprit if you don't get this often.

It’s condensation. As mentioned lower the windows a cm or so for a bit. Also check that your air is being drawn from the outside rather than recirculating air in the car. Keep the AC on for a while which helps with moisture build up.

also make sure your windows are clean, water vapor collects on the dirt and will make that issue worse. so try and keep them cleaned as best you can

I've heard that putting those silica gel packs in your car can help prevent frosting/fogging of the windows:

My Tacoma has this issue - and the best part...no rear defroster -_-

Silica packs work... also heard anti-fog treatment works...as does various home remedies like toothpaste and shaving cream LOL

never tried it. but i heard the old school barber shaving cream like the foam stuff on the glass helps with fog / moisture build up.

your floor mats might be dry but what about your carpet?


If your carpet or seats have any moisture then frost on the inside of your windows will get frosty.

What I would do is either start up your car and leave heat on full blast for a while or put a electric heat in it for an hour or so to get all moisture out of car.
