    Angry Safety Recall 1217F

The rear brakes on my 2016 Mazda are shot after only 48000 KM; only 3 mm left on the pads. Somehow, the front pads still have 8 mm left....very

Dealer tried to get me to replace the breaks before doing Safety recall 1217F, but I refused. Recall was done on the car yesterday and things were so bad they had to replace the entire left caliper (under warranty).

Dealer/Mazda refuse to assume responsibility for premature brake pad wear...VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

What was the thickness of the pads at your 24k service?

good question, as your brakes might just be worn out and if they are worn even they wouldnt replace the pads under warranty. if the not seized caliper was also 3mm then i wouldnt see they replaced the seized side, if the not seized side was like twice as much or more then sure maybe.

At 48k you shouldn't be upset they didn't cover the pads or rotors, as they are only warrantied for 1 year/24k whichever comes first.

Be happy they replaced your caliper and now keep a keen eye on your rear brakes from now on. Follow the service procedure.

Its weird but some Mazda's seem to be biased slightly to the back brakes more then others and more then normal, I know mine seem to be.

About 166K here and still on original factory rears and my car is 8 years old in June. Still plenty of meat left on them too. Poor Jimmy is gonna have fun when it comes time to do the rears and getting the rotors off...

Well it seems pretty obvious your brakes are biased to the front more then they should be as its not normal for rear pads to last 166k. Either that or you do very little to no spirited driving.

I hope also you've had the rears serviced atleast periodically.

I wonder if having the electronic parking brake will have an effect on it and if the car is a manual transmission.

Yup. I would say serviced 3 times over 7.5 years. There are others on here with rears lasting a long time as well. I drive more spirited in the summer.

I changed my fronts at 135K and I could have let those go longer. Light car + MT + knowing how to drive = savings

Naah. I only did the first year at the dealer and then I stretched things out much longer with Jimmy.

I'm on my third set of brakes at 320k. First set, (oem set) didn't last very long and have no idea why. The rears wore down fast and had a warped front rotor... Subsequent sets have been good, especially my present set.
