    Default Front end clunk

Needed a little help with the issues. I noticed a rattle from the front end over rough terrain on the driver's side. I jacked the car up suspecting control arm or ball joint issues. Sure enough there is a little play in the wheel. However the movement I can see is on the steering rack shaft but the tie rod end is tight and doesn't move. I can see the shaft move back and forward causing the rattle. Has anyone had this issue with their Mazda? I am 100% sure this is the culprit. I checked all the usual suspects.

Hmmm...clunking noise. Have you checked your strut mounts?

Like I said the play in the wheel can be seen coming from the steering rack. Thanks for the input.

Sounds like strut mounts. Have you checked those?

Thanks to those who replied. I will check both. I am leaning towards inner tie rods (no pun intended) but will check strut mounts as I could see that being a problem.

Ended up being an inner tie rod....however I decided to refresh the entire suspension as I really enjoy the car and wanted it to drive like new. Following parts installed

    Inner and out tie rods
    KYB struts/shocks on all corners
2 control arms with ball joints
front and back sway bar bushings
rear upper and lower control arms
Brake rotors from Maxbrakes all around
    3x engine mounts

No regrets! The car corners flat, has a smoother ride, and just feels great in general.
