Default Where to buy aftermarket brakes and rotors

    Hi all
My brother in law is going to be doing all 4 of my brakes. He typically just goes to Canadian tire and buys something there, but I'm seeing a lot of suggestions to go to MaxBrakes. My car is just an everyday car, but I'd like a set of brakes that are ok. He'll be installing them on the weekend of September 15, so I need something that will get to me by then.

Also, Maxbrakes asks for my model, and I'm 90% sure that it's a Sport GS, but it's not printed on the outside of my car (every other car I've ever had had the model name on the rear of the car). How do I double check?

    Thanks for your help!

Ok, so since posting this I read some really bad reviews about the MaxBrakes. Brembo's are on sale at CT, should we just get those? Is there something else I should be considering?

I'm coming up to 3.5 years on my Max Brakes, the XDs coated rotors with ceramic pads; (Top of the line and less then $200 all in) There is still some life left in them. That's approximately 70k of mostly city driving. I've had no issues whatsoever. Only issue, or non-issue imo, is some squealing when they are cold.

Do yourself a favour, go to Mazda of Toronto tell them you are affiliated with the forum and go OEM. I’ve tried a few aftermarket applications and they all sucked. I ended up ripping them off the car and putting on oem brakes. I paid twice.
Or bite the bullet and get brembo blanks from Canadian tire. For an average day driver, get OEM
1991 Nissan Pathfinder - trade in, 2005 Mazda 3 GX ty grey - Write off, 2010 Mazda 3 GT E sedan CWP- trade in, 2010 Speed 3 w/tech CWP - Up for sale (soon), 2007 Mazda 3 GS silver- motor swapped in to 2009 MS3 CWP that had blown engine, 2002 BMW 330ci silver- new winter ride, 2005 BMW M3- new toy

I had the same experience. I did 80,000 km with OEM and replaced it with Akibono (Akibino says half of all vehicles off the assembly lines have their brakes) because Mazda was expensive. Akibono was a disappointment compared to OME in terms of performance and durability. Later, I put another after-market. The same story. As McGuyer said, go with OEM if you can afford it.

    Agreed. OEM for the win.

I put max brakes on my Mazda almost 2 years ago and these are the best aftermarket brakes I've ever had. I am hard on brakes and used to drive a Pontiac and would have to replace OEM brakes at least yearly. On the Mazda I can drive highway and city and never have any issues with warping and brake noise. Drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads, from eBay, for 300 bucks all around. That was a good buy!

Check the prices at an affiliated dealer and let them know you are a member here, they off up a parts discount.
