Is your car running okay? I wouldn't bother if it's running fine. My 2012 skyactiv is at 198K and runs perfectly. Mazda apparently solved the carbon issue with their skyactiv engines by keeping intake valve temperatures very hot, so carbon burns off of them.
Hi, I too have a skyactive 2.0 and currently have 123000km on the clock. I haven't checked for carbon buildup so can't say if there is some or not and if it's affecting my engine performance. I do feel that acceleration is a bit sluggish below 2500 rpm. I know for a fact that my throttle body is opening and closing in sync with my throttle pedal, so it must be either intake or some other process that's causing the kinda slow pickup. My car is a 2011 Axela by the way (same as 2012 Mazda 3)
I ran across another less expensive way to clean intake valve . Cant say its a 100% but can be a less expensive way to
help prevent buildup....maybe if you do it on the regular. If you are not blasting with some sort of hard fine material at high pressure
you can spray your intake (air intake. remove your airfilter right up to the throttle body) and best product tested so far is liqui moly valve cleaner ($10 for 150ml)
Its in a liquid form so you have to move it to a pressurized spray bottle or pump trigger spryer and spray into throttle body while idling at 2500 rpm ...I know iknow
you need long legs or a friend to help out. Once its all sprayed...let sit for an hour then got for a drive (highway speeds) for an hour ...and repeat.
I will try it this weekend and let you know how it goes...im assuming i have some carbon build up after 250kms
