    Default Buying without inspection?

    Hello,

I know that normally you should take a car to an independent mechaninic to check it out.

But... I’m looking at a new-ish Mazda, 2014, decent km (80km), at Budds Mazda. They say tehy do not allow external mechanics to take a look. The car looks to be in a good shape, but it’s from Quebec... and it’s not a CPO.

Should I trust the dealership? Should I at least ask them to check the car? Or am I being naive?

Quebec car and no external inspections combine to make me very nervous.

I'm with Ami on this one. Unless it's listed for an amazing price, maybe play it safe and wait for the next good deal - these cars aren't that rare to find good deals on, so it may not be worth it taking a risk on a potential lemon.

Not to mention non-certified. So many red flags.

If the price is really good - I wouldn’t rule it out.... but maybe have someone take a real good look over in the parking lot.

Is the vehicle modified? That could be the reason for no CPO

If they won't allow an independent inspection that is a big red flag....Walk away.

Thanks for the replies, i did walk away! I'm not in a rush to buy something. It's not easy to find exactly what I want for a good price (I know, nothing new...).

If I go with a CPO, from a Mazda dealership, is an external inspection still good to do?

Would be ideal, but if it's CPO I would be more flexible if the dealership said no.
