What date is the LA Auto show in Nov. or is Mazda going to live stream the event?
I can tell you right now, it's in production... job one was sometime last month... it will be called the "BP", they skipped "BO" altogether
dealer parts catalogues already updated and lists the car
2005 Mazda3 SP23 hatchback (auto)
2016 Mazda3 Sport GT (auto)
Just watched the video again, the "New Era" has me interested. So does the bit of the car..
Will it still look like a Hyundai? Stay tuned...

^^Not impressed at all with that dash, it looks all mixed up with no flow. The tablet still sticks out like a sore thumb, and what's up with that steering wheel?
I think they're trying too hard...Keep it simple like last years Mazda6 dash.
_3
At least they resisted from using a digital dash but enough with the piano black trim...
I didn't realize Mazda was planning a mild Hybrid with the SkyActiv-X engine.
http://www.autonews.com/article/2018...to-show-mazda3
The strategy for Skyactiv-X is to deploy it in a mild-hybrid setup for pep and fuel economy, said Mazda Motor Corp. CEO Akira Marumoto, discussing the next-generation Mazda3 here ahead of its unveiling.
Marumoto declined to offer many details about the Skyactiv-X setup but said the mild-hybrid system uses a lithium ion battery. An engine cutaway shown at an earlier technology demo showed the Skyactiv-X powerplant paired with an electric motor to assist with low-end torque.
Marumoto said the Skyactiv-X mild hybrid delivers spirited, linear acceleration without hesitation or hiccups. Mazda will promote it by encouraging dealers to step up test drives.
It also will improve fuel economy by more than 30 percent over a standard gasoline engine of the same displacement, he said. The Mazda3 will be offered with the mild-hybrid 2.0-liter Skyactiv-X engine and a current-generation 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline powerplant.
The Skyactiv-X variant will be positioned as the higher grade. It will have the driving dynamics of the 2.5-liter gasoline variant but the fuel economy of a 1.5-liter diesel, Marumoto said.
"Skyactiv-X is a very efficient engine in the first place, so we don't need a full hybrid," Marumoto said. "Mild hybrid is good enough."
STICK SHIFT!
I am DEVESTATED that they dropped stick shift from the Mazda6. I'm almost 5 years in with my Honda accord 6Spd Sport (sedan) and was REALLY looking forward to getting the 2.5 Turbo in stick - But alas! its never happening!
Maybe I'll go back to a 3! I miss my Mazda3. It was a great little car.
yea its a shame they dropped the 6 stick shift but it was only in the last base model anyway wasnt it? but that 2.5T would be fun to have. i read somewhere as well that the new mazda 3 2.0 will be 190 Hp and i think it was 175 tq. that would be a nice improvement. i do like how my 2010 drive but it could use a bit more umph when you need it. still wonder if in the gt they will offer the 2.5T and with an manual. that would be a popular car i think as many of us would love to see the return of the speed in ether the 3 or 6. heck even a trim that was more sporty. nice bucket seats. different suspension, an exhaust . doesnt need to be "faster" per say anyway. still cant wait to see the new 3
