Smile 2014 OEM 18" Alloys refinishing

I bought a used 2014 OEM 18" wheel set. The wheels are not bent or cracked but they definitely need refinishing.
I search online and looked at reputable shops, nothing was below $500. IMO thats too much!

Anybody has any experience with DIY? Ive never done it before but willing to take it as a project.
Minimum I need to do are 2 things, need to strip the current coating and polish it again to restore silver finish.

If the wheels are finished with Hyper Silver, no amount of polishing is going to revive the OEM look as it's a specific paint formulation of black base and a translucent 2nd coat followed by clear.

Refinishing wheels is a labour intensive processive and a bit of an art and hence the hefty price. Powder coating is a route you may want to investigate as there are new powders that look amazing.

If you're looking to go Hyper Silver, you will be looking at even higher prices.

I was looking at this video and it looked doable. I think I will give this a shot in a week or two, if that doesnt work Ill sell the wheels for what I got them for as I dont want to spend $500+

Prep work is the biggest part of the job and will determine how the job comes out.

Use a green scuff pad to work the entire surface and make sure to use some grease and wax remover before priming/painting. Probably getting a bit cold to do outdoors so make sure have plenty of ventilation if working in an enclosed location.

Post some before and after pics.

i repainted my 18" mazdaspeed rims with products from Canadian tire.

4x DupliColor High performance graphite $14.99
    2x DupliColor Gray Primer $16.99
2x DupliColor Effex Specialty Paint (CLEAR) $19.99
    2x DupliColor ClearCoat $15.99

old news paper (weekly flyers work)
Painters Tape (had some laying around)
Sand Paper (400grit, 800grit, 2000, 3000) (had some laying around)
Alcohol (big bottle in medicine cab)

    total cost? approx. $180
It took a bit of time tbh with sanding and cleaning, I spent about 2 weekends on it.

Paint work requires alot of prep work. it's not a quick fix, and it shows in the final product. anyways good luck with yours, for me it was a fun project and great learning experience for a first time.
after 2 years, there are some chip paint in some areas, most around the lug nuts since i rotate my tires every so often and did some brake work.
It came out looking okay, i could have used more clear coat but
    2010 Mazda 3 Sport GS
    Crystal White Pearl
Mods: LED 3rd brake light, 6000k HIDs, 23% tints
