Recycling air

Hey so I recently just got a Mazda 3 sport gx hatchback its my first car and when I start it there is a really loud ticking noise and i'm pretty sure it has to do with recylcing air becuase when I turn hit the button it turns off but that doesnt work on the defrost. Just wondering if anyone knows some quick cheap fixes.
