Default Best foam tape locations to deaden bass rattling in door?

    Hello everyone,

I've started to have what seems to be an incredibly common issue with my 3rd gen Bose speakers: they rattle something in the door and it's annoying. I tried turning the bass down several clicks. I tried never listening to anything over volume 20. No, and no.

I have read multiple people complaining about this issue online, but few have been specific about their solutions. There seems to be a general idea that putting foam tape in certain spots inside the door can remedy this issue, but no one has been too forthcoming with details. I tried simply removing the plastic plate behind the handle (that hides one of the two screws you need to remove to take the door panel off) and that got rid of some of it, but there's definitely a culprit somewhere inside still.

I could just keep cracking my door open, experimenting with locations, then replacing it to see if the problem is fixed...or I could take advantage of the collective knowledge of this forum and maybe get it done in one go. Has anyone else done this and found that certain placement of the foam tape worked for you? Could you share where exactly you put it?

    THank you!

I would recommend you go the more extreme route, unless you are not intending to keep the car. Take a day and completely treat the doors and door skins ... great forum for info on all things car audio is https://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum

I went to John @ Auto-Links, he put 2 sheets of Hushmat and there is no rattle at all. However my car lives mostly parked in garages, so it's not exposed to too much rain.

There are some threads on the mazda3revolution site, some Bose front door speakers just need to be replaced at some point, the design is not the greatest.

You need single sided foam tape(Not double sided.), cloth loom tape(The type used for car harnesses), and painters tape.

First start with a tone generator playing through your speakers. Find the tone with the most rattle. When you find that tone press on parts of the door systematically to isolate where rattles are coming from. You can also press your ear to the door, to find rattles deeper in. Put a piece of painters tape where you find rattles. Once you pull the door card off investigate where the rattle is coming from using your tape marks on the door to guide you. Use cloth tape for thin spots like on the door where the card rests or for securing wiring and foam tape where you need to fill in gaps.
