    Default Warped rotors?

    Hello,

My brakes are acting up.. I have a 2015 with the original brakes, only 50k km. When the brakes are hot (more spirited driving), I can feel the vibrations when I brake at high speed, on the highway. But under slow/normal driving conditions, I can't feel anything. Is it time for new brakes? I would think it's a bit early at 50k..

Brakes are only warranted for 1yr/24k.

@Sebi - That is an early sign of a warped rotor. It also usually only shows up under hard braking unless its really bad. You could try cleaning the brakes, as in roughing the rotors and pads up with some emery cloth or sandpaper, as uneven build-up can also cause pulsing.

Brakes are not covered by warranty... plus I'm at 4 yrs now

Can I DYI clean my brakes, without taking anything apart? The place I usually go to said they won't do any cleaning/machining, they only offered to replace the rotors/pads. I assume a dealership would say the same thing.

It would require the calipers and pads be removed. No machining of the rotors is necessary, just a go over with sandpaper or emery cloth to clean and smoothen them out of any high spots, same goes for the pads.

Your brakes should be cleaned every 24k anyways.

And don't forget to have the slider pins checked, cleaned and greased.

If your usual place wont do it, try Jimmy or I could suggest the shop I go to in Scarborough. They do good quality work and very reasonably priced.

TECH LAN Auto. 300 Nantucket Blvd Unit 6. Kennedy just south of Ellesmere.

    Right next door to Auto-Links.

Call: 416-642-0780 and ask for Jeffrey or Harold.

I've been going to them for several years and they stand by their work.
