I've got dibs on a free used set of Connie 225 45 17's. Will those fit my stock '06 car with factory rims?
Thanks for any help.

Was this a stupid question? I would have expected an answer by now as you guys seem to really know your stuff.
Thanks,

During the holiday season, folks may not be as active here on the forums.
A quick search of TireRack.com shows that for a 06 Mazda3 running 17" rims, the tire size should be 205/50-17.
The size you mention has a lower profile which means your speedometer maybe off running a wider tire with a lower profile than stock.
Just checked using this website: https://tiresize.com/calculator/ it shows a variance of +3 which should be OK.
If you were going 110 Km/h your spedo would be reading 109.5 Km/h accourding to that site.
I actually meant 225. I'm wondering it that would be too wide for my stock Mazda rims.
According to this other website, your rim width (assuming 6.5 for OEM 17") should still fit the new tire size but further down near the bottom chart for rim size, it does not appear to be optimal unless you're after a short/stretch look.
For a tire width of 225, the site recommends a rim width starting at 7.5 to 8.5

Thanks for that Sonic. They're free so I think I'll just throw a pair on and see what they look like; look for friction etc. and see how they handle. If they don't work, they don't work.

FWIW I am running 225/50R16 on my 2012 Mazda 3 Sport, rims are 16x7.5 with 42mm offset. No rubbing, and no affect on the speedo (but the outside diameter is less than 1% variance from stock 205/55R16)

Just for a follow up, I did mount these tires and had no issues. I really liked them. Quiet, smooth and really responsive. They're worn out though so, back to the hunt and I will go to stock size now.
