Righto, I did the bearings in the front end about 5000 km ago. The right one is shot already. Now for a complicating factor, while installing the right one, I pressed the hub into the bearing before I put the snap ring in place. My bad. I pressed the hub out but it took out the outside half of the inner shell when I did that. I was able to get the hub off, put the bearing back together but thought it might not hold up, having been popped open. I tried it anyway. It ran smoothly for a good while and then started humming.
Sooooooo, I've got it out. It's burnt to s$*t. When it was wearing out, I knew very well it was pooched and drove it until it was really howling. It didn't seize though. I don't THINK. Anyway, here's what the knuckle looks like. Weird. I don't remember it looking like that when I pressed the bearing in the first place but I suppose it could have been like that. What's with the crosswise lines? I can see if you spun a bearing it would gall and create circular lines but I'm curious about these crosswise ones. Any ideas? I don't want to reinstall the new bearing in a damaged knuckle.
Thanks very much for any help.
OK, I'M TOLD I CAN'T POST ATTACHMENTS ANY MORE. WHADDUP?
