I recently did the "won't start in park" remedy to my 06 Mazda 3 sport. It works to a degree. I did this by removing the shifter cowlings, removing the white locking insert and tightening the linkage cable. It will now start in park and neutral though the linkage is now tighter or stiffer to operate. Also, the gear indicating lights don't always work and to make them work I sometimes have to really snug the automatic shifter down (towards the rear) into the correct shift gate position to have the gear light array work properly. I also get an AT (auto transaxle) error light on the dash if things aren't perfectly snugged up. Have I over corrected or something?

Thanks for any possible help.
