Default OOPS, pulled CV joint apart

I'm changing my control arms on my 2006 Mazda 3 Sport GT. Firstly, pain me though it does, I have to admit to making a mistake. I'm sorry. I let the side down, a guy making a mistake. Anyway, I pulled the inner CV joint apart. Out came what I can only describe as crude oil. Not quite grease but thicker than honey and black, black, black. Can I just poke it back together? Does it need re-lubricating? Does it need cleaning? Is that compartment lubricated by engine oil? Do I have to worry about the boot not sealing again? Do tell.

    Thanks for any help.

OK, I just found a good video online. Clean the joints, re-grease. Get new boots if needed.
