Default gen 1, replace rear shock mounts or nah?

for my 2006 mazda 3 2.3l hatchback, i assume i will need new rear shocks soon since they have about 95k miles on them. i was reading around and seems like the rear shock mounts are susceptible to breaking or whatever in our cars. so i was thinking of just replacing them with new ones when i get the rear shocks done?

if so, do i have to stick to oem or are some of these rockauto ones decent? which would u recommend. i am in canada btw so pricing is in cad

    DORMAN 924412 (aluminum): $13

    WESTAR ST6981 (aluminum?) : $25

    DORMAN 924412HP (steel): $35

    MAS SM851559 (steel) $49

    KYB SM5619 (aluminum?) $17

    MOOG K160229 (aluminum?) $17

    MONROE 906981 Strut-Mate Shock Mounting Kit : $22

so i guess we have the choice between steel and aluminum, i assume the no brainer answer is the steel or stay with mazda oem?

    thanks!

I've been driving when one of my rear shock mounts cracked and gave out.

Scared the living crap out of me. Sounded like a jack hammer in my right rear wheel well every time I hit the slightest bump.

Cheap peice of mind if you are going to be in there anyway.

I've always had good success with Moog stuff.

I bought the Monroe Spectrum shocks and the mounting kit. The shocks feel pretty close to original, and I sprayed the mounts with Krown formula when installed to limit corrosion.

Steel should be much more robust obviously. The cost is only slightly more, so up to you.

But I would suggest spraying them with rust inhibitive anyways. The wheel well area accumulates alot of crap which can corrode even steel over time. That's why wheel wells are usually plastic.

Either way you should be fine, I had one mount break on me, but only after 300k+ kilometers put on her driving the pristine roads in Scarborough.

Go with steel. I have had multiples of the aluminum Monroe shock mounts break on me over the years. I'm pretty sure I'm on my 2nd or 3rd set.
