I posted a couple of years ago that my front end was vibrating at around 90kmh and up, quitting at about 100 or 110 kmh. I replaced both front CV axles and it was a bit better but not a bunch. I replaced THOSE under warranty and it was a good deal better but not gone. I began to think it might be the inner straight axle shaft on the passenger side. I've never replaced that one.
The noise is back and worse. I talked to a mechanic at a dealership and he said his car does the same and he's not worried about it. Well, OK, but vibration is a precursor to failure. Anyway, I got back from driving all around town and a 1/2 hr. highway speed drive home. I didn't think to check right away but about 45 minutes later I jacked up the car, took my point and shoot thermometer out and the inner axle shaft was too hot to touch. It was 70F at it's end closest to the tranny, 60F at the end closest to the CV axle. The CV axle was 50F and the driver's side CV axle was 40F. So, there are some heating issues there and I'm just wondering if I'm out of parameters. I can't wobble that inner axle and get any movement out of it with my hand and moving the wheels back and forth doesn't seem to create any throwout in it either.
Ideas?
