Default Replacing battery without having to resort to engine (throttle body) re-learn?

I have received contradictory responses when contacting different dealerships about replacing the battery in my 2005 Mazda3. Some dealerships claim that an idle-relearn procedure is always necessary, while others suggest that you have only a few minutes to swap the battery before most settings within the PCM (ECU) are lost. They also suggest buying a battery saver tool that plugs into your cigarette lighter. I don't have one of these.

I vaguely remember a friend from a long time ago who managed to complete the battery swap within a minute and didn't need to perform an idle-relearn. However, I'm uncertain whether he had to reset other settings like the radio and more.
    Made in BC.

I don't see what the issue is with having to relearn. If you don't have a battery tender.

I've had to go through the relearn several times in my cars history. It is not a problem. Just run the car in idle a couple of minutes and then go for a normal drive for 20-30 minutes or more and done. Then reset your radio channels and clock...all done.

Well, it's great to see your enthusiasm for idling away wasting about 20-30 minutes of your time, not to mention the extra fuel costs. It must be nice to be privileged. Who needs clean air, savings, and free time anyway

I'm retired now so I have plenty of time. I don't worry about the other stuff.

I would think you would the ecu to relearn
especially after a new air filter and cleaning and changing the MAF or a new O2 sensor
