Default Anyone has installed a PRM CAI here?

I really wonder how it sounds and how it is.

Could anyone post up a video/sound clip?

I heard how it sounds when I was up at Jerry's place. He has a clip of the dyno session. He is just trying to figure out where to host it so he can put a link here. You can ask him to email the sound clip to you. The file is small so it can be attached to an email.

Based on the Dyno Chart on the 350Z off Jerry's website, that sound only comes on until after 4000RPM. I doubt I'd ever go that high unless I'm doing dodging something. I am however addicted to that sound when it revs down though it sounds like the car is huffing and puffing near the end.

I have it installed and at about 2800-3000rpm it starts to make a nice growling noise. I don't have anything to take a sound clip of it but I love it.

What about when you brake and the car rev's down? Does it make that machine like noise near the end?

The machine noise you hear from the clip was the dyno rollers. Not the engine.

I just installed this intake a couple of hours ago and took the car for a spin. It's quiet when engine is idling. Quiet like the stock airbox but once the engine is under load, it makes a nice growling sound. It's definitely not like a regular SRI with cone filter.

really? I'm talking about the last 10 seconds where it almost sounded like an aircraft landing.

that's what it was. The rollers on the dyno. Like the ones they use for emission testing.

Thanks for that clarification!! Guess the only way to know is the hear it in person. Anyone who has one installed care to do a mini meet to hear what it sounds like?

I installed mine the other day and if I have time tomorrow I'll make a soundclip vid.

Mine was REALLY loud for the first +/- 100KM. It was like having an exhaust...but in the front. Haha! Like Maxspeed3 said, it sounds like stock at idle, but once you start moving it's another story. This is my first intake, so I'm not sure if it's the same for all the other brands, but sometimes you can hear the air getting sucked into the intake from inside the cabin with windows up. If you pay attention sometimes you can hear it funneling air with the radio on volume 2/3 (07+) driving conservatively. Anything above 2500 is pure beast. It starts off as a growl at 2.2K and than by the time you hit around 5K it's all anger.

I will say that the first time I took it out for a test after install I wasn't expecting much of a difference, but was pleasantly surprised.
    Butt dyno approves.

I got mine install as well. I was wondering do we need to run it hard for a few minutes inorder for the engine to adjust the output. I have heard that if we baby the engine it might cost the tranny to float in the future. Any thoughts?

Have you guys noticed that the mileage increase after installing the CAI? I was getting 9L per 100k after the install it drops to 7.5L per 100. I am averaging around 115K-120K per hour. Not bad for a 200 dollar upgrade.

I noticed this when i got my fujita too, but then i realized that i was just not driving "as hard" as i was without it. I could be wrong here, but i think because it actually sounds better at lower rpm's that's why the gas consumption is better. The alternative would assume that more power = better mileage?! (that doesn't sound right) lol

I find the car more responsive & easier to push. It is pretty quiet when cruising around 120K @2800 rpm, plus the sound just makes you want to push it harder. Good investment so far.

Actually that does sound right. Remember your engine is basically an air pump, the easier the air can move through the engine the more efficiently it runs, which basically means that It produces horsepower with less effort. for example if I needed 2800 rpm in 5th to get to 120km/h and now I only need 2700 or 2600 rpm to get the same it means that my engine is working more efficiently. If you were to drive a F1 car at 100 km/h in top gear it would probably get better mileage than any car on the road today!
