I think hydrolock is an overrated danger. Independent ghetto tests and some on-line stories conclude so far that one has to be at outrageous RPM\'s to ruin an engine. However 2-3ft of water at the bumper will most likely short out one\'s electricals and alternator before real damage can occur.
But damn, these Tsunami and Monsoon like weather is something I haven\'t seen in the GTA for awhile!

BTW! Where in Brampton do you live? Those streets look familiar.

lol.. people are driving up other\'s driveways to not get rushed away by the current. Pretty bad weather, not too bad up here in Markham.. just hale but rain wasn\'t too bad.

Should I start building the ARK?

speaking of the ark, an email i got today...
Noah in 2005
>
>
>
> In the year 2005, the Lord came unto Noah, who was now living in the
> Canada,
> and said, \"Once again, the earth has become wicked and overpopulated and
> I
> see the end of all flesh before me. Build another Ark and save two of
> every
> living thing along with a few good humans.\"
>
> He gave Noah the blueprints, saying, \"You have six months to build the
> Ark
> before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights.\"
>
> Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard,
> but
> no ark.
>
> \"Noah\", He roared, \"I\'m about to start the rain! Where is the Ark?\"
>
> \"Forgive me, Lord,\" begged Noah. \"But things have changed. I needed a
> building permit. I\'ve been arguing with the inspector about the need for
> a
> sprinkler system. My neighbours claim that I\'ve violated the neighborhood
> zoning laws by building the Ark in my yard and exceeding the height

> Then the Department of Transportation demanded a bond be posted for the
> future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to
> clear
> the passage for the Ark\'s move to the sea. I argued that the sea would be
> coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it. Getting the wood was
> another problem. There\'s a ban on cutting local trees in order to save
> the
> spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the
> wood to save the owls. But no go! When I started gathering the animals,
> I
> got sued by an animal rights group. They insisted that I was confining
> wild animals against their will. As well, they argued the accommodation
> was
> too restrictive and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a
> confined space. Then, the EPA ruled that I couldn\'t build the Ark until
> they\'d conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood.
> I\'m
> still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights Commission on
> how
> many minorities I\'m supposed to hire for my building crew. Also, the
> trades
> unions say I can\'t use my sons. They insist I have to hire only Union
> workers with Ark building experience. To make matters worse, Revenue
> Canada
> seized all my assets, claiming I\'m trying to leave the country illegally
> with endangered species. So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least
> ten years for me to finish this Ark.\"
>
> Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a rainbow
> stretched
> across the sky.
>
> Noah looked up in wonder and asked, \"You mean, You\'re not going to
> destroy
> the world?\"
>
> \"No,\" said the Lord. \"The government beat me to it.\"
There was about a 1.5ft puddle of water in the small road behind my workplace here and we were watching the puddle get bigger and bigger. Cars were still driving through it tho. Out of maybe 20 cars, only 1 car; a Camry, stalled and died. It\'s still sitting out there right now, about an hour after it stalled.

hydrolock isn\'t a \"myth\"
just today, my friend\'s STOCK 91 integra sedan hydrolocked. he was driving SLOWLY through a puddle and a SUV flies past him kicking up a WAVE of water that engulfed the front of his car. anyone who\'s seen the stock intake point on the snorkel will know that it sits facing up behind the passenger side foglight...well, the wall of water made its way into the engine and stalled it.
towed to a garage...they got it started by removing the plugs, blowing the cylinder out with compressed air, and replacing the plugs with new ones. blue smoke everywhere...turns out that the engine was losing compression due to some bent valves (water is incompressible...piston moves up, spark plug doesn\'t fire, mr. valve meet mr. piston). bottom line, he needs a new engine.
cliff\'s notes: hydrolock is not overrated and can happen to a non-modded car.
pic I took today...

Days like that I wish I never bought the CAI... Had to leave my car at work cause of the water level. I\'m just lucky the water level did not go higher than the fog light.
