Well, since the Mazda6 site is blocked at work (and it\'ll be only a matter of time before this one is too, I guess), I am creating my own little subforum here (mods, it\'s called forum squatting).
Membership to TM6subTM3 is open, for a limited time only, to all TM3 members at no charge. But to appease the TM3 deities, you must pledge allegiance to the Mazda3. Hail the Mazda3.
Discussion in this forum is limited to the Mazda6, all other makes and models and all other areas of specific or general discussion, including philosophical discussions of the meaning of life. All posts on other matters will be deleted.
Cheers,
Nathan

Hail the Mazda3.
WTF, the Mazda6 doesn\'t come with auto headlights or auto wipers. It does come with auto climate control and an excellent stereo system (although I hear Bose ain\'t the greatest, for a tone deaf audio noob, it\'s still better than the audio in my Mazda3).
I also wish they had an accessory electrical outlet in the back seat.
Handling is not sharp. Steering is numb. Maybe a set of Racing Beat sways will do the job.
More to come as I learn about this puppy.

Hail the Mazda3.
Anyone know the performance figures of the 3.0 V6 ATX? The big question is \"Can I roast the 2.3 Mz MTX?\" Definitely feels faster than my GS, but it\'s a heavier car I think. Also, I lose quite a bit with the ATX I\'m sure.

lol,
the i4 in the heavier mazda6 can beat the mazda3\'s i4. i read it here somewhere forgot whether it was manual or not.
but im pretty sure your auto v6 can take our little mazda3, it has mroe to the flywheel then we should have to the wheel and im sure something about the power to weight ratio balhblahblaha
i dunno what im takling about :D
EDIT: wanted to add that i would GLADLY trade auto headlights and rainsensor for bose system. then again, i would gladly trade my mazda3 for a 6 anyday =p. lol i like long sleek sedans, as opposed to my hatch haha coudlnt even get the sedan for my 3 =p

Hail the Mazda3.
The Mz6 2.3 is different than the Mz3 2.3? Can\'t be that much of a difference can it? Or maybe it\'s the fear factor -- if I were a 3 owner coming up against a 6, I\'d be trembling in my panties, that\'s for sure... :D
Line it up, beeeyaaatches!!!

Hail the Mazda3.
I feel as if I am devolving due to the automatic tranny. I was dropping off the kid at daycare today and I jammed two feet onto the brake pedal of the Mazda6. Momentarily forgot there was no clutch. Oh well.
In any event, there are some benefits with ATX ownership. I can now [better] gab on the phone, drink my Timmies and eat my bagel in the morning. Putting on the foundation and mascara is a piece of cake now too. I would comment that I was quite surprised that the Mz3 stick wasn\'t a problem in stop and go rush hour traffic at all. Maybe it\'s because the Mz3 manual tranny is one of the better ones on this planet.

The 2.3L MZR engine in the 6 is the same as it is in the 3 except that it has been tweaked for more power. Trust me when I say this.......the MZ6 I4 in 5 speed is faster than the MZ3 in 5 speed.
WUD, if you want to gain a few extra ponies think about adding a CPE intake......I\'ve heard they work wonders on the V6 equipped 6\'s.
And yes the 6 doesn\'t have auto headlights, but come\'on, that\'s a waste of money and you know it. And while it doesn\'t come with auto wipers, it does come with variable intermittent wipers which IMO is superior since you have control.
The 6 also has six airbags, traction control, auto climate control, a decent factory system with subwoofer, power drivers seat, auto dimming mirror, a huge trunk, better gas mileage, it\'s quieter, and comes with tires that are at least decent in snow.

auto headlights
- i really like this feature. afraid of leaving the lights on in the middle of winter and coming back to a dead car.
auto wipers
- agreed, i can live without
six airbags
- i didn\'t know that; good to know!
subwoofer
- is that the centre speaker in the middle, behind the seats? can it be upgraded (without the woofer box you mentioned?)
PLUS, the remote has a trunk popper!!! Yay.

WUD, yes, that\'s the Bose sub in the rear decklid. It\'s a fairly cheesy 9\" sub with it\'s own amp built in. A few people have replaced it with better quality 8\" subs, the only catch is you need one that will work in a free air environment which is not too common these days. The box I built fits into the right side of the trunk in all the dead space.
The trunk release on the remote is great.

Some other features I thought were great about the 6:
- The levers in the trunk that when pulled fold the rears seats down
- The little sunglass holder in the maplight/visor area
- The lights in the front doors that help to illuminate the area around the car when the doors are open (sounds silly, but it makes a difference)
- Ambient outside air temp gauge (not too big a deal now that the 3 has it, but still nice to have)

I thought the 6 would have limited slip, but it doesn\'t! Just traction control.
CP-E looks good psivic. But it\'s so expensive!

It is expensive but keep an eye on the forums, they\'re usually a few for sale at a decent price.

11.8M ...approx 39ft. about as bad as the 2001 maxima i had that had a 40ft turning circle. now that thing was a bus to make u-turns in! rumour has it the 2004+ maximas have a 44ft turning circle...now that\'s a boat.
TheProfessor
09-21-2005, 01:36 PM
44ft is just ridiculous if you ask me.
The 3 on the other hand has a nice tight turning radius.
Whos ur dadd
09-21-2005, 02:05 PM
Hail the Mazda3 and Psivic.
So, the original owner got the full treatment for the car... rustproof, paint protection, fabric protection and sound proofing. Wonderful! EXCEPT that there is a yearly inspection required. It must be inspected YEARLY at the dealership +/- 60 days of the anniversary date of the purchase. Original owner didn\'t know or forgot - it\'s expired and there\'s no way for me to re-instate the coverage. DAMMIT!!! :(
But at least there is some protection I guess. I recall with the old Ford Probe done @ Ziebart, I did the rustproofing and annual inspections/resprays for the first 3 or 4 years then let it lapse. 10 years later, it was still looking great (a lot of other Probes on the road were rusting in the usual areas...).
As for the turning radius, I didn\'t know that. I actually haven\'t paid much attention to it. But it does have a boaty-floaty feel to the driving (as compared to the Mazda3), so the radius is consistent with the overall character of the car. Of course, nothing beats the boaty-floaty feel like my parents Oldsmobile Delta 88. Or the Cutlass Supreme that preceded that...

Flip, also do you know if I can add Mazda OEM fogs? The stalk on the car has a fog light switch, but there are no fogs? I have the V6 GT/GFX and was really surprised the top of the line didn\'t have fogs. Is it a JDM thing?
Finally, do you have a 6 cargo tray and net? Thx brudda.

WUD, your car has fogs, they\'re just integrated into the headlight assembly.
FLIPDADY

The lower foglights are for the non-GFX bumpers. Like PSIVIC mentioned you already have a fog light built into your headlights. The only suggestion I have is to change it to a yellow bulb.

I didn\'t expect the 6 to get better mileage than the 3, of course. But after travelling 3/4 of a tank, I thought that it\'s not really that bad. Then as I line up tonight for $1.04 gas (boy, I felt lucky), I read the manual and see that the 6 has a 68L tank. YIKES. Really haven\'t calculated the mileage as I was really booting it in the 6. We\'ll see what kinda mileage the v6 gives with this next tank.
The v6 is really smooth. Pulls nicely all the way to the redline. Next thing you know you\'re travelling at a high rate of speed. Muted growl from the engine when you\'re romping on the gas. Nice (but a little more rumbly exhaust would be great)!
TheProfessor
09-23-2005, 08:25 AM
One of the main reasons I opted to get the I4 was fuel consumption (or lack thereof). The 6 with the 2.3 motor has served me well in terms of fuel economy, and I know I\'m gonna miss it with the 3.

Well, good news (for me).....I just sold my 6 today. I\'m gonna be handing over the keys in a week, which gives me enough time to pay out the balance of the loan, get the car e-tested and certified, and clean it out. Jeff said our new 3 could be in as early as Tuesday, so it looks like the timing is gonna work out perfectly!
Sad to see the 6 go but happy that I\'m replacing it with such a great car.

Hey WUD, how did u get these OEM rims from those guys so cheap? Last week I went there and asked them for the same set but off from a 3, they were asking $150/EACH!!! SICKKKKKKK......

Danny, the beautiful people get all the deals.
Yeah, I really don\'t know why the wheels were so cheap (hope they\'ll roll true ;) ). When I called them, they said they\'d give it to me for $200 for the set (they were listed at $70 each on their website). Also, they were listed as 2003 model alloys from a Mazda6. Maybe the 3 is still too new for good deals to be had? Also, were you looking @ 16\" or 17\"? I don\'t think there are any good deals to be had for 17\" at the junkyards (too popular I guess). Finally, maybe the Mazda6 is considered more of an old fogey\'s car and parts are priced accordingly!!! Another benefit of being old! :p

I was actually asking for the 16\' set off from a Mazda 3 GS, when I told them it\'s really way too expansive for such parts from a collision car, they said the DEALER listed price is $229/each so it\'s reasonable for them to sell @ $150.:p

Hail the Mazda3.
My observations on fuel economy:
1. our SUV - gulp, gulp, gulp
2. the Mazda6 - slurpy, sip-sip, slurpy, sip-sip
3. the Mazda3 - sip, sip, sip
The fuel economy for the 6 looks like a consistent 12.5L/100 kms. Mixed driving (more suburbia driving if you ask me). Romping on the throttle a wee bit.
The V6 though is silky smooth. The 5 speed automatic is great. I am used to 4sp autos (Miata, Probe, Pathfinder), so when you don\'t expect to have a shift, there\'s a nice kick from the extra gear of the 6. I\'m sure the 6 speed auto would be even better.

Just bought the cargo tray for the Mazda6 from Flippy. NICE FIT! Plus it\'s quite thick. Now those blood stains can be simply hosed away.
Also got the cargo net to prevent the loose limbs from moving about in the trunk. Unfortunately, I\'ll have to figure out how to get rid of any incriminating DNA evidence which finds itself on the fibre strands of the cargo net.
