no, but they are turning off the refineries. and you need them on to make gas.

here\'s what i don\'t get:
1) Canada has the world\'s larget oil supply in the oil sands in Alberta
2) China\'s 2 biggest petrol companies have invested BILLIONS in oil sands extraction
3) Granted the cost of crude extraction from sand is pricey, but the cost/barrel of crude is damn near the price of crude from the sands
4) Venezuela, a country smaller in size than Canada with practically the same population, charges the equivalent of $0.04CAN/0.03US FOUR CENTS per LITRE of gas. Here is a country, a small part of OPEC, that doesn\'t believe in the \"futures trading\" market that determines North Americas oil prices.
- source: CNN Global Gas Prices (http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global_gasprices/)
and here\'s what irks me even more:
5) Ontario has refineries for each of the major oil companies that supply gas here
6) Most of these refineries get their oil from Alberta, across the pipeline that extends across Canada and into the USA
7) Petro-Canada was created with Canadian taxpayer money to provide a LOW COST ALTERNATIVE during the \"oil crisis\" of the 70s. they aren\'t low-cost anymore since they\'re the SAME price as the other oil companies
8) Oil prices are determined by FUTURES traders...people who GUESS what the price of oil will be in the FUTURE and trade based on that price. and who gets rich from this? the traders, the governments that are making money from the taxes imposed on the fuel we buy
9) The government will never lift the GST in the fuel tax (a tax on a tax) since it brings them too much money.
aside from that, hope you come out alright after Rita passes diox.

Stoooopid; all that chaos last night! It was UN-****IN-BELIEVABLE! And this morning in Hamilton gas was at 99 cents. Pure scare tactics and price gauging at its finest http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/sauer/angry-smiley-055.gif

I was not about to pay out $96ish to fill my tank at $2.35/liter (heard that one on the radio).. Really there would be no point.
