So, I believe I finally got the iPod working for songs (I\'m not the most technologically savvy person...).

1st question: Anyone know how to transfer digi photos? I think there was some reference to iPhoto? Does iPhoto work on PCs? Where can I get iPhoto?

2nd question: I purchased some singles thru Futureshop\'s Bonfire. Download went fine and I can play it thru Windows Media player. But I can\'t transfer it to iTunes because of electronic protection. Bugger! I guess I should have purchased thru iTunes? Is there a way to remove the digi protection (given that I paid for it for use on the iPod but can\'t use it!).

3rd question: I imported some songs into iTunes straight from CD. If I wanted to listed to those songs with Windows Media Player, I assume I\'d have to have WMP convert it (as Apple format is different?).

Help a tech noob out...

I\'m assuming you have an iPod with a colour screen, otherwise, photos won\'t work with the B&W iPods.

You can buy the Apple Photo Connector and transfer you photos directly from your digital camera to you iPod. It\'s $40 and well worth it. I\'m pretty sure you can also transfer photos from your PC to the iPod through iTunes. The advertising for the Nano shows photos on the Nano\'s screen but since it\'s not compatible with the Photo Connector, this must be the only way to do it.

iPhoto is for Macs only and is more of a photo editting suite.

There are free programs to convert music files files to MP3 or AAC (Apple\'s format). I don\'t know if they will strip the DRM from the files, but they most likely will.

Thx blunty. Got the Nano. The Nano Guide mentions iPhoto as the way to do photo transfers. I couldn\'t figure out any way to photo transfers thru iTunes though.

I hoping there\'s just a simple app to enable me to transfer photos to the iPod as camera connection and photo editing is currently done with PC based software.

this is what bothers me about them mp3 players.. damn DMCA crap.. you have to use their proprietary software/hardware to xfer shit and that is usually cumbersome and expensive.. granted i hear ppl like iTunes as software.. anyway..

when i got my iRiver ifp-899 mp3 player i was told i could xfer files from pc to the player and vice versa.. WRONG! i could NOT transfer MEDIA files back from the player to PC.. i got pissed and googled.. duh :p i found a hacked version of firmware that allows the PC to see the unit as a memory key and the only thing i need now is a USB cable.. (no proprietary s/w) SWEEET.. so maybe there\'s something like that (a hack - of course that voids the warranty or something :sarc) for the iCrap and maybe you\'re just stuck downloading legit mp3s and uploading them to your player once and then paying again.. *sigh* too many ppl wanna make m00lah off ya .. heh

When you\'re ripping a cd with itunes, make sure you set the encoding option to MP3 instead of ACC (the apple music format). Check under the preferences tab I think.

As for the copy protected music, you can burn it on a cd from Media Player and then subsequently re-rip back with itunes. that should work.

You can find a lot of information over at iLounge.com (http://www.ilounge.com).

WUD, I just noticed in the bottom right hand corner of iTunes it says \"0 photos\" so you can transfer photos to and from your Nano with iTunes.

I was just messing with my new Nano today...

You can transfer pictures from your My Pictures folder. If you have pics you want in there transferred onto your Nano you can either organize the pics first in a new folder within My Pictures on your computer first or just transfer existing folders over.

Once your Nano is plugged in... in the ITunes program... you either click on the Ipod options button (lower right of screen) or right click your Ipod name on the left and choose options. You will see a photo tab. Once you click on that you will see that it is grayed out... you have to check the box that says sync photos with My pictures... you can select to transfer all your pics of choose specific folders by checking the boxes beside your existing folders within the My Pictures folder on your computer.

Click okay and then update your Ipod and the pics will transfer. Once it is complete you can view the pics on your Nano... it\'s like looking at pics through the LCD of a camera. You can muck around with the setting of the slideshow... it\'s a good way to fill up some space ;)

WUD - for those pesky songs that have protection, its easy. If you can play something through your PC, you can record it ;) Roxio Sound Editor comes to mind. It is part of the Media Creator package. Or you could ask Majic nicely to google you up a free sound recording app :) Then just save as MP3 etc
