View Full Version : Any Converted Vegetarians Here?

I\'m approaching that majical age where males are supposed to have that midlife thorough check-up. Watching Spike T.V. ads and hearing stories from around the way about \'lack of early\' detection can be frightening. If some of us tune our cars and do preventative maintenance, why not our bodies?
I was just curious to know who here is very health conscious in how they excercise, eat and get medical examinations? Who here just eats everything in moderation? Who here pays for Organic products in the supermarkets?
I\'m afraid I\'ve been like the typical male who only sees the Doctor when a major sports/work injury occurs. I don\'t want to be clutching my chest one day from heartattack, pissing every 2 min from undiagnosed diabetes, or find out that the lump was a major tumour.
I\'m thinking of coming off Red Meat altogether for starters and limiting that category to just poultry, fish, beans, lentils and soya products for protein. Anyone here go vegan? I\'m afraid and trying to lose the misconception that vegan diets are bland, not filling and I\'ll be the grumpiest fawker bull around. I\'ve been eyeing my various ethnic co-workers of different religions and cultures to see how they eat. More specifically I\'ve noticed that our N.A. diets are shit with fast foods and deep fried crap.
Any thoughts are welcomed!!!

i strogly believe in \"why deprive yourself of the foods you love?\" mentality.. eat in moderation and exercise regularly, i think that\'s the best \'diet\' and healthy lifestyle. it seems so OBVIOUS but how many times are we lured into some popeyes or mccrap? yeah, so they have \'healthy\' menus that are saturated in fats and when you add that UBER size pop and ocean-salty fries, you\'ve just had your weekly carbs intake.. i\'m not saying to count calories/carbs or whatnot, just be sensible.
might as well include some organic foods and whole wheat products instead of all purpose white/bleached flour foods. there\'s a book about the 3 white killers (no.. not the KKK): white flour, sugar, and salt. you can find a lot of naturally ocuring foods that are salty and sweet so you can compromise. for example, instead of 2 spoons of sugar in my tea, i went on to use some billy bee and now i\'m off it altogether, just in coffee..
the worst is breaking habits, so the gradual transition is key - you don\'t want to put your body through shock. also, try not to eat past 7pm so that you have time to digest before bed time. proper diet (believe it or not) will have an impact on your sleep as well (how easy/hard it is to fall asleep as well as how peaceful/restful your sleep is) i\'ll see if i can dig up some notes from a sleep/stress seminar i went to (ie. when to eat proteins and carbs)
now if only i could stick to those guidelines i\'d be ripped ;)

Damn! Some good points. I\'ll start first by cutting down on my frequency of fast-food joints. For a brotherman, I need to get rid of the 3 White Killers.(Whooo.., I loved that) As for Pork! I\'ve been hearing through the grapevine that it is a very crap infested meat kind. But damn! Good ole Jerk Pork, Pepperonni, Bacon on pizza and ribs.
I\'ll have to visit the Canadian Food Guide and be more wise when grocery shopping for substitutes. I must keep in-mind moderation and balance of diet/excercise.

for me? no never eat healthy. cola, burger, ice-cream, chips always my favorate:D.
I always have my own theory, if time come, no matter how your habit for staying healthy, you still need to go \"somewhere\", or can I say DIE:p . if you look around your friends, relatives, or even someone you never know/meet, bad news sometimes come quite suddenly, a friend of mine was become a victim for early stage of cancer, good news is he recovered.
Just feel happy all the time, not always only eat junk food, then you can be quite healthy.

Oooohhhhh! This is the greatest creation ever made!
I try to eat healthy, except on Wednesdays, that\'s the day that I allow myself some slack. In the mornings I eat a bowl of oatmeal, a \"homemade\" sandwich for lunch and a Coke (my only source of caffeine for the whole day, I don\'t like coffee) and a small dinner before 7pm. I make sure I walk around during my lunch hour and exercise at night (epecially since I can\'t play tennis or golf anymore). I also made sure to cut down the salt and the sugar, not entirely, but less than before.
