Hey guys

I just thought I\'d advise all the young\'ins NOT to go into engineering at the university of Waterloo. I am currently in Mechanical Engineering (2nd year) and I hate it, everyone in my class hates it. I just wrote a midterm in \"Electromechanical Devices and Power Processing, the class average was 41% (i got 37%). There is going to be no mark adjustments -- which means so far only 12 out of the 94 students are passing the course. The university does not want to \"comprise the integrity of the engineering program at waterloo\" --- smells like a whole lot of \"we\'ll ***k you over and take your money.\" I hate my program ><

ahaha.. welcome to the real world buddy..

how many ppl entered first year at UW eng? at UT it was 800 comps and elecs.. how many graduated.. ~300.. first year and the second year are pretty much WEED OUT years.. this is where you\'re at.. you can search this forum but i told ya.. \"good luck and buy lotsa lube\" all i can say is, been there done that and man i\'m glad i just toughed it out.. it sux going from mid 90s to 60s average but hey nobody\'s gonna look at your marks in the end (except for ATi and CGI and others that employ purely on marks)

as for the \'passing\' well they may or may not bell at the end, and if they don\'t it\'s probably to teach a lesson that you actually have to do some work isntead of coasting by like in HS. trust me, i had a course similar to it in 3rd year CSC366 - theory of computation .. UGH.. we HAD to get 40% or more on the final to pass the course.. and all the proofs and theorems were so ridiculous, boring and a lot of them were abstract (reminds me of another course.. advanced eng. math - integrating over imaginery numbers.. fun fun fun)

good luck.. no really.. 90% of my friends have pure hatred towards the smelly halls of UT and the geeks who\'d argue that they got 93 and not a 94 :sarc or complain that the \'english\' course is bringing their avg down.. bah.. alright that\'s the end of my rant.. :p

for my understanding, UW is very popular w/ Maths, business may be, and Engineering. so the Prof. may be very tight on his/her marking for students to keep UW famous courses;)

Dude, there\'s a reason so many people try and do engineering at UW....it\'s a good school with a good program, and with their co-op they are one of the best IMO.

On the first day of class there were roughly 150 ppl . After first 1A term around 30 ppl left, and after 1B term another 20-something people left.

It has been written in the waterloo paper that my year (ppl born in 1986) have recieved the lowest grades in engineering since the unversity opened in 1957. In addition to this, we also have the highest dropout rate -- but this comes as no suprise. I think someone did something to the drinking water that year hahah
