View Full Version : FOG LIGHT ISSUES

K couple things;

1) Bought a set of the yellow fogs from the GB;
(Facing the car) the RIGHT one went in no problem and has been in there since August.
Installing the LEFT one it had something rattling inside. Myk exchanged it for me for another one. Now last night I went to replace my stock for the exchanged yellow... again. Same shit. Once we got the mud gaurd off and took off the stock fog.. plugged in the yellow one.. rattling started again.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? I\'ve had no problems with the RIGHT one and the light output is awesome but I\'m thinking it might be the quality of the fog.

2) When we put it in last night it blew my fog light fuse. Where can I go and get these 15A fuses? Can I just go by the dealership and have them stick one in for free :D :D

I just want my yellow fogs :(

crappy tire but even cheaper would be to go to active surplus on queen and mccaul (roughly) they are so much cheaper 25-50c each :D

I have installed my fogs last week with the GB yellow fogs. So far i do\'nt find any problems with it. When are you hearing the rattling? when the car is in motion? or as soon as the car starts?

Maybe i have my stereo on too loud i can\'t hear it. I\'ll see if anything rattles tonight when i drive my car again.

No this is actually when I put the fog light in.. while I am holding it. This is the second time the same thing happened so my bf pulled it apart and a clear plastic piece fell out. It doesnt even look like it belongs anywhere; kinda looks \'shattered\'

I dont know. I guess I am going to do lamin-x

MK,

Have you looked into getting the Nokya H11 Yellow fogs? I know they aren\'t like $10 each ($35/pair), but there are a lot of good reviews on M3F about them and a few TM3 members have them as well, including myself. I can guarantee you will like the yellow output from the Noyka yellows.

Kevin@nextmod

+1 on the Nokya yellow bulbs. They are pretty bright and it\'s differnt from the ones you get from Myk. They are $20 more but they i guess last longer and is somewhat brighter.

MAZDA Kitten

That is what Im probably gonna do.
Whats the major difference between Myk\'s and the Nokyans?
I noticed that the ones from the GB have a greenish tint; how about the Nokyans?

RedRaptor

No greenish tint at all. Pure yellow bulb and as Pearl Hatch mentioned, the light output is the \"same\" as stock bulbs. I don\'t know about how long they last but I haven\'t heard of complaints about them burning out fast.

Here is a picture of the Nokyas taken in the morning..

I think the problem with your bulb are the tabs locking it in place are loose. I\'m talkin about the 3 tabs sticking out at the base of the bulb. I had the same problem as you and what you need to do is bend the tabs down alittle (towards the connector) so that it fits tighter in the fog housing. Just use some pliers and slightly bend all three. I\'ll see if i can find some pics

Is this an isolated issue with the GB fogs (from Myk) or will I break my Nokyans too? :(

SwooshICE

i doubt its the problem of the fogs from myk

I have mine installed for almost 6 months now they are still fine.
although the clips are a bit lose comparing 2 stock bulbs.
but i still love them ;)

DO NOT DO LAMIN-X.

lol ive had mine for several seasons (the overlays) and over the course of that time they got burnt. lol as in on the yellow, the spot where the fogs point directly at it, its brown/black.

to lazy to take off now cuase its frikken freezing. anyways if u decide to use the overlay then replace after like 1 season, or they will burn like mine =(

I\'ve been doing some research about that issues on M3F.
Basically the rule of thumb is not to have them on while the car is stationary

and would the quality of these clips be better if I went with something like the Nokyans?

Cut by self ..

I think 4dr & 5dr fogs share the same template; at least Lamin-X sells the same template (Model # M110) for both.

I really should read the boards more often - My lamin-x came in today and go on tomorrow. Thankfully, most have gone with the yellow film - I went with optic blue.
I expect them to last without any issues and have stock bulbs.
Aftermarket will be hotter temp - if I wanted more light I\'d upgrade these to HIDS.;)

Okay, so today I discovered that my drivers side Fog light I bought in the GB is burned out.. month and a half old.. in Myk\'s defence this is the first time I have mentioned this and I am sure they are gonna take care of me. but this afternoon one of my low beams went as well...

Anyone else experience this?

Next question, if I put out $35+ for better bulbs should I expect the same life expectency?

you\'d think so but, sadly, this isn\'t always the case.

years back, PIAA hyper/super-duper whites were almost $100 (if not more) and they were known to blow within 6 months.

In my older cars, before I installed HID\'s I ran the PIAA\'s and they each lasted me the life of the car before I sold them (2-3 years). I\'m a firm believer that the $100/pair PIAA\'s are far superior to the cheapies being sold as well as the not-so cheapies like SilverStars. Oh yeah, PIAA used to (may still) have a one year warranty on the bulbs against burning out.

I\'m worth $1,536,364.00 according to the Biz link above - my wife would most likely disagree with this amount but would happily take it nonetheless:)

Both of my low beams burned out at approximatley at the same time A MONTH after being installed (a day apart; had to drive home to Hamilton from Sauga with highbeams on)
I purchased the yellow fogs as well but never got to see them burn out because they kept breaking everytime they were put in :hoho (yes the actual bulb literally \'fell apart\')

I like my HID + lamin-x set up; but I am planning to purchase yellow Nokya\'s as well

I wonder if I install another set of HID on the fog light, but still leave my LAMIN-X yellow fog films on, will the films actually burned since apparently the HIDs have higher temperature?:sarc

Getting HID foglights for the Mazda3 is a waste of money and more importantly when you remove the cap in the foglight housing (since HID bulbs are too long to fit), you are BLINDING other drivers on the road with all the glare. :sarc

I can understand the wasting money part since we all do mods that technically \"waste\" money but the blinding other drivers part is not cool. To see the glare I am talking about, just check out some pictures of people who have HID fogs (\"unedited\" pictures from M3F Sok07\'s car is a good example of the crazy glare captured in pictures). :sarc

OOHH......I\'ve never known that HID Fogs can disturb other drivers that much, I\'ve always think that since it\'s positioned much lower than the headlights therefore it should create less distraction........:sarc

Yes you are partially right. However when you install HID bulbs into the housing, you have to take off the cap/capsule unit since the HID bulb is too long. Then basically you are installing HIDs into a reflector housing (which is looked down upon and many people consider it rice when Civics do it). The reflector housing aren\'t meant for HIDs so the light is scattered to produce glare, thus blinding other drivers.

Who agrees? Raise your hand (not just Civics, ANY reflector housing!)
