These types of news stories always fascinate me for a couple of reasons. First, it’s the reaction we as a society have towards the person found guilty and secondly the double standard we show to victims of this type of sexual assault.

Before I get on my pulpit let me categorically state that this teacher is ONE FARKING HOT BABE! I would have begged to be given a detention in her class. I wouldn\'t have sucked up like most students and given her an apple. Hell! I\'d bring her the whole farking orchard!

Seriously though, if just for one minute. Consider how we as society have reacted to this. When the story first broke there was disbelief that she could have done this. Why? This could be answered by simply stating, \"because she is a female.\" We become conditioned to think that women are not capable of this type of crime in the same way men are. Think about it for a minute and change the scenario. A handsome guy seduces a 14 yr. old student into having sex. Would we be having this discussion? Most likely the guy would be strung up at the nearest lamppost. The fact that the young women in question is attractive serves to minimize her culpability in our eyes.

Then there is the victim in this case. The jokes run rampant about \"how lucky\" this guy is. I\'ve made more than my fair share around the office trust me. But if you really think about it does a 14 yr. old have the maturity to grant consent? Did he feel pressured because this was coming from a teacher and a HOT one at that? Most guys would all go around patting him on the back as if it was a badge of honour. But how many of us would walk up to a young women in the same position and congratulate her in the same way? At best it would be considered crass and humiliating.

The point I\'m trying to make here is that this situation is a perfect example of how society contradicts itself when it treats victims of sexual abuse. We honestly believe that a male cannot be raped if the accused is a woman. We take far more comfort in confronting these types of crimes when the person on trial is a man. So we make jokes about the situation. We do so because laughter and humor is a common response when humans are confronted with stressful situations. Again, I\'m not condemning the comments in this thread because I have made each and every one of them at some time. It just struck me as odd when I thought about it in the grand scheme of things.

I also wanted to post these comments because majic always comments to me in PM that I’m never serious about anything.

IMO, it comes down to the fundamental difference between the sexes. We apply the same law, same punishments to two very different \'species\'. It\'s a catch 22. If we don\'t, society is racist. If we do, some things look absurd.
