View Full Version : Powder Coating stock 17\s

Anyone here used these guys (http://www.colourificcoatings.com/default.htm) for powder coating stock 17\"\'s?

They quoted me $35 per wheel and have a fairly wide range of colours.

Any thoughts?

I assume that the cost is sandblasting and application of powder coated colour. Does the cost include application of a clear coat finish?

SourcE
02-09-2006, 01:15 PM
I assume so, I asked the guy how to powder my OEM rims with a matt black, and he said $35 per wheel.

this is from their FAQ section:
Do you provide chemical or mechanical removal of previous finishes?
We do not provide metal stripping services at Colourific, nor can our pre-treatment process remove previous finishes, oxides or scale. The only solution is mechanical or chemical re-finishing of the substrate, which cannot be done at Colourific.

SourcE

So does that mean they can\'t do my rims?

I have no clue when it comes to this stuff. Would they need to remove from my stocks?

Check this (http://torontomazda3.com/forum/read.php?TID=1789&page=1)

you gotta take your tires off first and then get them sandblasted ideally.

If any of you powder coat your rims \'mat black\', let me know \'cause I might do it.

Jeff is the man who runs Mr. Fancy Pants Powder Coating and he messaged saying he will register and post up on this board for you guys. He also said he can work out a Group Buy price.

Oh and he also fixed the links in that thread on VM so if you guys wanna check that out. Most of those pics are on his website as well.

It also all depends on the finish. If its a glossy black it will have a different look and stand out more then say a matt black.

what seems to be the price from his website
is

60 dollars/rim sandblast and powder coat

clearcoat extra

this is a b4 group buy price!

like i said i emailed about prices, i will check at home,
and patrick said he is gonna sign up here, so . . .

this could just be a matter of time, do it b4 the spring, cause most of us have out summers off!

If you end up going with jeff he factored in the sandblasting to his price. I believe he has clearcoat as an extra cost though. Better to let him tell you what he can do...

Howdy All... Mr Fancy Pants here \"names Jeff\"

www.fancypantspowder.co.nr

I recieved Alex\'s E-mail and finally was able to sign up on this forum \"tried a few nights ago and even tonight a few times until it worked\"

Anyhow... Price is $60.00 a Rim which includes \"Blasting/Prep\" as well as Coating. \"which is based on IN STOCK colours\" which are... (Black/White/Blue/Green/Red/Yellow/Grey/Gunmetal with or without Metallic)

Only a very few Powders require a Clear Coat \"mostly to bring out the Base Coat\" or to Protect the Base Coat as its a \"specaility Colour\" which is more fancy then durable \"hence why the Clear Top Coat is required\"

A Flat Black say... would not require a Clear Coat as the Coating itself is more then durable and has been devoloped specially for Outdoor use and to stand up to the UV Rays from the Sun. Most Rim places who Clear Coat their Rims do this because they are not Powder Coated but either a fancy Liquid or a Baked Enamel which is not near as durable as a Powder so they then require almost triple the Clear Coat on Top to stand up to the UV Rays outside \"which is why the Clear Coat on cheaper rims starts to peel/chip\" they were never Coated Properly.

As for a \"Group Buy\" I would have no problems setting something up... The cost would be cheapest if EVERYONE decideds to go with the same colour, If everyone wanted a Different colour then the Price Drop may not be as big. But think about it, get an idea on how many people would be interested and Colours wanted and we can go from there...

Thanks Guys

Jeff

i was just about to post up with Jeff\'s Email

well i am glad that you were finally able to sign up!

here is what i suggest!

post you name
and the colour u want and if you want it metallic?

i am a bit confused on the metallic part, what the difference will be in looks on the rim
and pictures maybe black, gunmetal and bronze? would be great!

ok.

1. Broli, Gunmetal, (metallic or not, not sure yet?)
2.
3.

we can get an idea and then we can see what the price will be!

This would be a \"Normal Gunmetal Shade\" It looks a bit more Glossy then it truly is due to the Flash of the Camera...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/Jedi_Car_Fan/f5f9731a.jpg

And all 3 of these are a \"Iron Glimmer\" But what most people refeer to as \"Gunmetal\"

P4
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/Jedi_Car_Fan/Rim3.jpg

P7
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/Jedi_Car_Fan/IM001453.jpg

P11
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/Jedi_Car_Fan/CIMG0206.jpg

The Normal Colour is would a true Gunmetal would be like \"because a Gun does not have any type of Glitter/Metallic to it\" So why people refeer to a Gunmetal as a Metallic Shade type deal is kind of beyond me. \"lol\"

- I have the Glossy Gunmetal and the P4 and P11 Iron Glimmer Gunmetals in Stock.
- I do not have a Bronze in Stock... \"Anything not in stuck is subject to an extra fee\"

Best way to start I guess is to see how many people are interested and which Colours/Shades everyone is after

Shouldn\'t the rims be taken off the wheel by a professional with proper equipment ? I heard its approx. 10 per wheel to take them off.

Thanks broli

Chinsterr

rims = wheel

i\'m guessing you mean tires be taken off the wheel...call tires23, they should be able to just take off the tires (i.e. not swap tires) for a small fee. $10/wheel is usually the price for swapping tires. taking off tires on 4 rims can be done within 5 minutes.

totally a personal taste thing!

some like white, cause it looks good in contrast
some like black cause they are going for a stealth look

some like
gun metal, cause its silver, but not that silver!

i like, gun metal on black, i dont like white rims, unless they are huge, just looks even bigger!
maybe photchop ur car a few times and see
?
