Thats how I went through school. To be honest, I envy people with great organizational skills. Not something easy to turn around though... good luck.
I am keeping myself VERY busy, maybe a little too busy;) but I HAVE TO plan, or I am screwed:
- Work Full Time
- On-Call Every third week 24/7
- Long term GF
- Going to the gym min 3 nights a week
- Just finalized a house deal (move in Sept 2007)
- Run www.teamslipstream.com Car Club
- Sales rep for www.underground-highway.com
- Finishing up 15 cars going to SCN on the 25th
- Organizing LARGE multi-club Charity show in Niagara
PHEW....

You need to will yourself to do it, that is hardest part. Telling yourself you need to change won\'t change anything until you make that first move. It\'s easy to lose grip on things that need to be done, but sooner or later, it\'ll comeback to kick you in the a$$.

Putting things off until the very last minute is quite normal, especially for a University student. I find that what helps me most to accomplish tasks in a timely fashion is to first make a list of what projects need to be done. From there, I start to prioritize them in terms of importance and/or deadline, and things just start to happen after that. Just keep reminding yourself that if you are so lazy that it seriously impacts your grades/work, then you\'re not going to go very far in life.......that should be motivation enough.

You are off to a good start in recognizing that you need to change. Depending on the type of work you want to get into, procrastination can be seen as a detriment to any future advancement in a company. It’s only human nature to put things off for other things. My only advice to you is to understand what you are actually doing. At some point you will have to pay the price for it. The question is whether the price is worth it to you?
It is all about personal discipline.

I\'m functioning procrastinator! Buy this book, I\'ve procrastinated reading it but it\'s good.
Getting Things Done - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0142000280/sr=8-1/qid=1141922058/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-4658219-5747357?%5Fencoding=UTF8
Seriously, I\'ve skimmed through the book and it\'s good and what I\'ve read has already helped. I\'ll finish it on the plane when I head to Europe in April along with 3 other books I need to finish reading.

I\'ll have reply to you tomorrow... :D
Seriously though - sounds like you\'re in school still (post-secondary?). And as said, it is very easy to put things off till the last minute when in school. However, when your job/$$$ involved, you\'ll find you may procrastinate less.
I\'m a horrible procrastinator - but it\'s worst at home then at the work. Comes down to at home I have to be even more self motivated (don\'t have someone to \'report to\' or reporting to me) than at work.
Along with what others have said:
- Personally, when I have a lot to do and I start to feel a bit overwhelemed (at work and at home), I\'ll start to procrastinate (What\'s the easiest thing to do - nothing). Its a bit easier to surf the internet at home rather than: do laundry, ironing, wash floors, tidy room, clean car, get license plates renewed, process pictures from trip to Ottawa for gf to look at, scan pictures gf asked me to do for project she\'s working on, pay bills, go to bank, go to post office, help friend with home reno.... you get the idea - so:
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Break up what you have to get done into smaller units and set a resonable schedule to it. You may find that as you complete these small tasks, you have a sense of accomplishment, which feeds into keeping you motivated.
- Learn to say no - relates to the above - you\'re bogged down in an assignment, you\'re behind. Friend(s) come and says lets go for a coffee/drink/movie - escape from the reality - so you go and procrastinate (I did this so many times in university). Say no - tell them and yourself I\'ll join you later - a treat.
Side note to school vs. work:
In elemenatry school, if you were the kid that was all over the place, couldn\'t focus or stick to a task for more than five minutes you had attention problems. As an adult in the workforce, that\'s called multitasking (I think I got that from a cartoon...)
Not sure if I\'ve made a point here, but hope you can get something out of it.
Well I got to get back to procrastinating. :)
