newsflash.. so yah there are more timmies per capita in canada than there are mickey D\'s in usa BUT.. timmies is canadian and to gain some ground in the stock market it would need to infiltrate the US market.. so far there is a handful of TH in the USA
above was paraphrased from the radio/tv news today..

Ya. Tims also has the Highest concentration of Caffine. Thats why people line up for 20 minutes to get a large coffe in the morning. They are addicting their customers.
It\'s ok if they do it....but not the cigarette companies..
The stock is going for $25 I believe on Friday, of course it will be snapped up huge by all the big players. This will drive the stock up large initially. Maybe even double it. But fat chance on getting any. But after that...then what... overpriced stock...
If you had 30 large and had a way to get in on the action fast and pick up a 1000 shares..that would be o.k. But dump them when the price is high.
Krispy Kreme went bottoms up...fast...the same won\'t happen here...or will it...

krispy creme misinterpreted the canadian market for a donut one, when it actually was a coffee one. they should have sold ALOT more than jsut different types of donuts (and to my knowledge they seemed to only have like glazed stuff)
lol thats what my prof said atleast
EDIT: he also mentioned how when comparing the 2 companies tim hortans offered different kinds of foods for different times of the day (sure u can eat soup and sandwiches as breakfest, lunch, and dinner)
wow i cant believe i remembered this stuff

the government only likes to put up the charade that they\'re doing something to prevent the people from buying cigs. the public sees this and says \"wow, the gov\'t is looking out for our health\"; however, in actuality, they don\'t give 2 shits about your health. the gov\'t makes a KILLING in the taxes they rake in from cigarette sales, as well as the money they get from the \"lobbyists\" in cigarette companies.
remember what Chris Rock said \"only the white man can profit from pain..\" black man sells drugs, he gets thrown in jail...white men sell alcohol and tobacco, billionaires.

Exactly right...the only people who will profit from this IPO are those who work at Timmy\'s and have private stock already, and those on the inside.
here\'s how an IPO works, those on the inside buy a ton of them at a low price...this creates \"false demand\" that the public sees and goes \"holy shit the stock is rising, i gotta get in on this\". the stock then hits a sell point/ceiling where the inside people have set and then they begin selling. who do they sell to? the public that want in on the \"rising stock\". sooner, rather than later, people see that there\'s a good number of people selling, so they begin selling and soon the price comes down to near IPO levels. who goes laughing to the bank? the connected people. who goes crying that they\'ll have to hold onto the stock until they can get back what they paid for it? the ****ed-over public.
who remembers VA Linux? their stock rose 698 PERCENT after the first day of trading in their IPO (http://news.com.com/2100-1001-234182.html) - from a $30 IPO to a high of $320. now their stock trades for $3.71 (http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=LNUX).
not saying that Tim Horton\'s will be the same, but the public won\'t get rich off this IPO; in fact, most of us will get in too late.
Krispy Kreme was a victim of bad timing and management. they opened up too many stores, their lustre wore off when it became too available, and the Atkins diet pretty much put the nail in their coffin.
and Timmy\'s has the highest concentration in the Niagara region, especially in Hamilton where the first one opened. out here in Regina, i think i drove past 1 on the \"main\" street and none downtown.

The Tim Horton\'s brand was the most profitable division for Wendy’s the last two years running.

It was mentioned above that Tim Horton\'s is Canadian, it\'s not. It may be headquartered in Ontario and started in Canada but it\'s still owned by Wendy\'s International inc (bought in 1995). The only reason Wendy\'s is offering this IPO is because they need to make some quick cash and their Tim Horton\'s division is the way to do it. They need the money to get Wendy\'s a float.

you\'re right.. they were bought out but still do not have sufficient market share in the USA .. we\'ll see if its popularity will rise in the states after the IPO..

interesting article here as to why Tim Horton\'s is IPOing (http://www.canadianbusiness.com/markets/stocks/article.jsp?content=20060213_74613_74613)
Back just 5 years, Wendy\'s was kicking McDonalds and Burger King\'s arse in sales. In fact, McDonalds only growth was in new restaurants, and year over year sales at existing restaurants were declining. so what did McD\'s and BK do? emulate Wendy\'s!
Now Wendy\'s sales are going down but Timmy\'s is keeping them afloat.
Interestingly enough, an American billionaire forced Wendys\'s to take Timmy\'s public, since Tim\'s account for 66% of the parent company\'s earnings/share.
i\'ll stick to my Stan Makita\'s ;)

broli, zaku actually goes to university, not Honest Dave\'s Accounting School and Grocery like you do. if you think he\'s gonna pass eco/bus class for regurgitating one little interesting tidbit like that, then i\'m going to recommend you buy some bre-x stock.

The wife and I had toyed with the idea of getting in on the IPO quite a long time ago but with all the hype now I doubt it\'s a sure thing (not that it was before, but now as has been pointed out there will be a false demand created).
I will say this though....all of my companies employee\'s who come to Toronto from other countries (mainly USA and Europe) cannot believe how good Timmies is and actually crave it! They will ask that we bring them cans of Timmies coffee when/if we have a staff member going to one of our other offices!

Nuts!, The IPO was for $27 and right now the bid/ask $40 and was as high as $65 should be interesting at the open.
I\'m not going to buy as I\'m trading Crude, Gold and Silver equities. But I think THI would be a good long term buy.
