Some pics from my Sim session with my boss at Air Canada on the brand spanking new Embraer 170/175/190 simulator. Spent a good 4 hours there and flew the sim from takeoff to landing like a true champ. Much different than the planes I fly and I was surprised at how real the acceleration on takeoff felt.
If I had $40million lying around Id probably get one for myself. Technically Im not allowed in there, but I had to blend in and look like an Air Canada pilot. Im surprised none of the guys there thought I was a bit young to be flying at AC :D

Right then! Legoman wins for best video game. That\'s way too cool Legoman. Tell me the truth, were you tempted to buzz ground targets?

Actually when my boss was flying it for the first time and I was doing the first officer work we almost had an air-to-air collision. was intense, you need to be strapped in because if ur not and u crash u\'ll end up on the other side of the sim. :D But no ground objects. I usually only do that in the real airplane.

I forgot to ask you LegoMan. Is that the aircraft made by the Brazilian company?

Yes it is, and having also flown the Bombadier Canadair Regional Jet Sim, the Embraer product is far superior to ours. Makes the CRJ look primitive. At last, the Brazilians have beat us in something other than soccer :D

I remember reading in the Globe and Mail a while back about the \"national crisis\" that arose because Air Canada was buying planes from another country.

Unfortunately in this industry there is alot of politics. If there was no pressure, all of Air Canada\'s planes would be foreign. The Embraer is better in the following ways.
For the Operators: Faster, burns less fuel and carries more passengers. Its like an Acura vs a Honda.
For Pilots: Its the only regional jet to have autothrottle, the Canadian planes, the pilots have to control the airspeed on climb, cruise and descent. Also the Embraer can still have autothrottle capabilities incase of an engine out, which most big Boeing jets cant.
Alot better avionics and features compared to the Bombardier product as well.
For Passengers: Quiet, comftable. Leather interior seats with the headrest able to form around your head to create a pillow. All passengers get their own PTVs.
There is some rumour that Air Canada is getting rid of their smaller airbus\' for more Embraers and the larger Airbus are gone in 5 years and being replaced by the new Boeing 777/787 aircraft which are still the most advanced airliners to date.
So AC will have a very up to date fleet, but dont worry, your ticket prices wont go up too much :D

curious to know what routes the plane will be flying? i guess I could check to see if its in the en-route mag. does it do vancouver-toronto? looks a bit small for that route though. how about toronto-montreal? i do vancouver-toronto every week and it used to be on the airbus (319 i believe...maybe 320...something like that??) but now it\'s all 767\'s which i don\'t like. great thing about this plane is it probably has no middle seat but i usually get row 12 anyway so i\'m a happy camper.
i hear air canada is doing a system-wide upgrade of seats and such? when\'s that gonna be done? can\'t wait to see what it looks like! next week though i\'m flying with harmony cause air canada fares were really high for that week for some reason. ah well!
cool pics! it\'s like a massive version of that flighsim game haha.

Air Canada is now in the process upgrading all their interiors. As for Toronto-Montreal at the moment they are all running large heavies due to the large demand. There was some rumour that AC will be operating the EMB-175 to Calgary or Vancouver by fall. At the moment most of the flights are to Halifax, Ottawa, Boston, Chicago, New York, Houston and soon they will be flying the Embraer to all their Florida destinations, they are now flying it to Ft.Lauderdale as well.
Here is a pic of their cabin

i used to take the Bombardier CRJ from toronto to regina every week for the past few months.
nice leg room, but tight as hell in terms of seat width. oh, and don\'t even try going into the washroom if you\'re 6\' or more.
The EMB looks sweet. Does CAE make the Sim?
LegoMan
04-29-2006, 03:06 PM
yes Air Canada only owns the 767 sim and A320. the A330/340 and ERJ sims are all CAE sims. AC has 1 EMB sim in Toronto and 2 in Montreal because JetBlue and United use them there as well.

That wasn\'t a girl. ;)
The CRJ flying locally only, wouldn\'t need the extra width in the seats ... flying through the U.S. tho would be a different requirement.

Jazz flies the CRJ to Houston and from what I hear its a brutal flight in the CRJ, 4 hours is too long to be sitting in that thing
