I have an 05 ATX sedan and have recently been noticing a hard shift from 1st to 2nd. I have read around the forums but have noticed that most of the people that had this problem had it during winter.
This hardshift from 1 to 2 occurs during the first 5 minutes after i start the car. Once I begin driving, it eventually goes away. Should i bring it in to Avante ? Sugguestions ? help ? anything !!!
Thanks guys

I stopped worrying about it.. everybody experiences it so I figured it\'s \"working as designed\".. did you get the free flash upgrade to your car??

I had that problem in Winter time and cold weather, until I got the firmware reflashed. Seems smoother in the spring weather, even thou it\'s still there just not as hard shift as before.
I have the 4-speed ATX from \'05 with ~11000km on it.

I was thinking of making the same post; the winter problem is now the summer problem. I have complained about this to the Mazda dealers a few times, and they don’t think there is any problem.

I just got this 1 to 2 hard shift problem fixed at Mazda of Toronto when I had my 24k about 2 weeks ago. They did it on short notice too which was nice!.
The difference is noticable, it\'s a lot smoother now.
I have the same issue currently, even when down shifting. Its really pronouced in manumatic mode. But I\'ve also hadthis issue in my moms 2000 Accord automatic. Its just a cold gearbox a think. No cause for concern.
But I\'ve got a question, what is this dealio about a flash upgrade? Are we talking about the computer in the car...explain please...

You sure you\'re downshifting at the right speeds? If you downshift at the top end of the speeds window for the destination gear you\'ll feel like you\'re engine braking.
The flash upgrade is done through software at a dealership, ask for it specificly stating the problem. MoT had no trouble doing it for me.
