A while back I installed a set of OEM HIDs I got from the U.S. The headlight housings came complete with the actuators (motors) to adjust the angle (level) of the projectors. I never really looked into making them work, as I didn’t thing we had the wiring for this. However a member of the Mazda2Forums recently discovered that even though his Mazda 3 came with OEM halogens, the HIDs leveling switch came pre-wired. See pics bellow.

Here is the switch in place:

I haven\'t checked mine yet (will later today), but I think it\'s safe to say I will also have this wiring. Unfortunately I couldn\'t find the wires inside the engine bay to make the switch functional. Has anyone seen, or knows where to get a wiring diagram so that I can find out where the wires go so that I can connect the motors up and have the levelers work?

I just had a look at the service manual, but it doesn\'t offer much help.

It only describes and shows diagrams for an \"auto leveling\" system which uses a sensor in the rear suspension to determine how to position the lights. Our cars obviously don’t have that sensor, and use a manual switch. The service manual has no mention at all of the manual switch.

Here is all it has:

************************************************** **************************************
1. According to the fluctuation of the suspension, the auto leveling sensor installed in the rear of the vehicle send a signal to the auto leveling control module.

2. When the signal input from the auto leveling sensor is detected, the auto leveling control module verifies the vehicle attitude, then calculates the amount of optical axis adjustment. The auto leveling control module compares the actual and required positions of the reflector, then inputs a command signal to the headlight leveling actuator.

1 Zero setting
2 Optical axis
3 Large passenger or cargo weight
4 Vehicle attitude
5 Low
6 Zero reference
7 High
8 Auto leveling sensor
9 Optical axis adjustment amount
10 Auto leveling control module
11 Instrument cluster
12 Headlight leveling actuator (LH)
13 Headlight leveling actuator (RH)
14 Voltage signals

Operation When Driving
1. When the auto leveling control module detects the vehicle is moving at a constant vehicle speed between 30-180 km/h for 3 s continuously while the headlights are on, the average value of the vehicle attitude during the period is calculated and the optical axis is adjusted. (The adjustment control is operated only once per each period of driving.)

Note
• When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, it is normal to hear the headlight leveling actuator operating for a few seconds, as it verifies system operating conditions.

Warning... I\'ve looked into this...

The HOUSINGS alone (not including bulbs or ballasts) cost $1200 EACH (you have to buy two of them) it\'s totally not worth it.

Hi
If I have factory HID with manual leveling system, can I add a sensor and have automatic leveling system? Is it easy to do? Can you send me a pictures please, becouse I can not open it on this web site.ThX
