View Full Version : Question About Cops....

I dunno if anyone is a cop / or knows any cops but I was just wondering...
When a cop pulls you over (if he has a reason or not) and he asks to see you licence or ID, what is he really doing (if he\'s not issuing a ticket). Is he checking for a criminal record? seeing if you\'ve been pulled over before for a similar reason? or just punching it what you were doing this time for future reference....
It happened to me a few times now where a bunch of buddies and I get pulled over and the cop asks for all of our licences/ids and just punches us up and lets us go... Do they record each time what happened or are they just checking we\'re not on house arrest or something:sarc

The cop should have a reason to pull you over, infact thats the first question you should ask of the officer, if he didn\'t have a reason to pull you over, it is illegal non? but i guess he/she could always come up with some bs excuse.
The officer always has to ask for you license, registration, insurance because they need to make sure you are driving legally, make sure the car isn\'t stolen, make sure you have insurance. They also run stuff to see if you are wanted for anything. If you are violating some sort of probation.
Im pretty sure they do things like pull your prior records up to see if they can nail you for anything else. i.e. if you had a drug conviction in the past, they\'d try to hassle you for that and try to find a way to find something.
A police officers job is to find people who violated law and while he/she has you why not run your information to see if you did or not?
As for the recording thing, I think they would record that they did pull you over for their supperiors just to show them that they did some work. I think if a ticket or a warning is not issued, it will not go on your record for future reference of officers that pull you over later.

I was just at Joe\'s about an hour ago. Incidentally there was a police cruiser parked outside. I think they\'ve already found him :p

I’ve been to one of those establishments where women of impeccable virtue will demonstrate their rather amazing ability to empty your wallet of $20.00 bills while wearing nothing more than a smile and walking in red high heel shoes.
But I digress….
They made it a habit of driving through the parking lot and running the license plate number of the cars that were parked.
