View Full Version : Cluster dims when using window switches
For as long as I can remember my lights in the cluster dim when I use my window switches. When I mentioned it to some people at the meet yesterday everyone seemed puzzled.
Is there anyone else experiencing this? or is it just me? I notice it the most when its dark outside, my lights are off and I use the window switches (either way) the whole cluster dims.
I just thought it was a common thing on the 3 because there seems to be a lot of electrical on the car, but now I am not so sure. I am looking for some reassurance :(
That doesn\'t happen to me, but I\'ll give you some reassurance that they soak up power. If I use my window switches at the same time, my stereo will stop outputting sound to my amp :p (my sub will turn off). I have to adjust the seperate gain controller to turn it on again :p

Good day!
It could very possibly be a bad battery, or your alternator is on it\'s way out, or a bad ground somewhere. How many klicks on your car?
Peace out.:D
Mine does this also. Since day 1. I just thought it was nomal too. If you take it in and they fix it... Let me know too!

it had happened to my ex-Protege, if I taped on 2 window switchs at the same time, it dimmed even darker, and I noticed this happened to my 3 too, but not as obvious as the Protege, so i thought all these are normal.

Almost sounds like your battery is unable to supply enough voltage when the windows are being opened/closed. The window motors probably place quite a load on the battery when opening or closing windows. The cluster diming may just be the most noticable symptom.

Happens here too, though it\'s quite faint so some people may not even notice unless they\'re looking for it. Typically only happens when it\'s more than one window being used at a time. I\'ve never had any issues with my stereo not working though, that sounds more serious.
