I have a 2006 sedan and I have been noticing that the sunroof leaks when I take it through a touchless car wash. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I have brought it back to the dealership and they keep giving me the run around. So, far they have replaced the rubber seal with a thicker one and the problem still exsists.

Is it leaking when the sunroof is completely shut?

or

Is it leaking soon after the wash when you open it?

SAME PROBLEM!!!!

Only the super high pressure washed though (Esso).

I have a 2004 though (still not that old).

I don\'t particularly leak, (sunroof is closed) but I leave the sunroof light shield open so I can watch the action and I noticed a fine mist coming through when I went past the water jets. For just a second. No dripping or anything just a split second of mist.

Only happened once, I went back last week and confirmed it.

I doubt you could fix it, my suggestion would be go to a car wash with less high pressure jets.

Same thing on mine, although I only get one drop of water entering the car. I attribute it to the high water pressure that they use at the car wash.

Hey Flipside! The problem happens while I am going through the car wash. The only area that leaks is the passenger side back corner.

I think the drainage can\'t keep up with the volume of water. But you would thing that in the year 2006 that they would have this problem solved! Sunroofs has been around for way to long for this to be happening.

Probably clogged up drainage!

BTW, it\'s FLIPSPEED.;)

Those high pressure washes are IMO a little too high pressure. I can definately see it as being the culprit.

That\'s messed up. I would be taking it back to the dealer to fix under warranty.

Hey there,
I have 2007 Mazda3 Sport and I recently went through both Esso and Shell car washes and the sunroof leaked a bit. I thought for a second that under such pressure that would be considered normal! Maybe at my 8000km check up I'll let the dealer know about it.

Thanks for this post!

A mech friend of mine told me he won't even go through the touchless as it will kill the seals. He told me the seals are only rated for highway wind >20psi. A touchless wash is <1000psi. Mine leaks at times too, but with this explanation it seems kind of dumb to complain about it. I'm surprised it doesn't leak more!

Just noticed my sunroof leaks when I decided to watch how the touchless car wash works. Had several strong water streams at various buldge points along the rubber seal. I guess the pressure washers forced the water under the seal along the glass.

I'll have it checked out at my 24,000km service at Erin Mills.

This is the first time I've had the shade open to look up during a car wash so I don't know how long it's been happening. I'm not too worried as it's just soapy water.

But the worse part is the pressure washers didn't clean the glass of my moonroof at all. :chuckle
