for the past 2-3 days my car has been experiencing severe delay with the throttle response and upon finally responding it would jerk the entire car as if i was a n00b stick driver.. (picture broli having a seizure.. see not a pretty picture even before the seizure).. constant RPMs seemed ok, as long as i didn\'t accelerate or change gears but that\'s kind of unavoidable..

at first i thought \"ok it\'ll go away\" like i hoped broli would but alas that didn\'t work.. wishful thinking eh? next day i got a CEL and then it dissapeared.. there was no rhyme or reason to this, it would happen on a cold engine, on a warm engine, after some driving, it would go away, come back..

first thing i called my personal service assistant, MajesticBlueN :thup and he said \"have you cleaned your MAF?\" saaay whaaaaa.. no.. so he advised to buy some electric contact cleaner from CTC and follow these instructions over at mazda6tech (http://www.mazda6tech.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemi d=1).. i bought the cleaner but ran out of hours in the day and the CEL went off so i put it off one day.. what a ****ing mistake.. next day (yesterday) I was blessed with a stop\'n go traffic (worse than any other day) and by the end of my drive to work ~ 50km i was ready to drive through a concrete wall.. i felt bad for the car and i was just aggrevating myself..

a day earlier, i found out Mr Transmission pulls the ECU codes for you for free and gives you a free estimate and tells you what is wrong.. having a horrible experience last time i had a CEL (when i put my V2 intake, Oakville Mazda they told me it would take an hour to pull the codes :omg and that it\'s 10min to closing so i should make an appointment) i decided to call Mr Tranny..

me: i\'d like you to check out what;s causing my CEL
Mr T: what car?
me: 2005 mazda3 GT
Mr T: what year?
me: *ummm* 05
Mr T: Take it to a dealer
me: *thinking what if i\'m out of warranty anyway* I\'m not near one (lie)
Mr T: how many kms?
me: 60K
Mr T: ok well.. i\'ll have to book you in
me: *hang up*

why can\'t i just ****ing drop in? it doesn\'t take an HOUR to pull a code!!!

since i was right next to Downtown Mazda, I gave them a call (sorry Joe/Jeff, just wanted to get it done ASAP) the service advisor lady said.. \"oooh you\'ll have to book an appointment\" you mean i can\'t do it on the spot?? \"no.. it takes about an hour\" :jerkit

i figured, if i have to make an appointment i\'ll do it right and call Joe :) but before amking an appointment i messaged MBN.. luckily he was in the area and had his CAN BUS reader/PDA thingie and pulled 2 codes P0102 and P0113 i think.. btw, pulling codes took about 40seconds :thup (1hr my ass :sarc ugh) one was temp sensor input high and the other MAF sensor input low (something to that effect).. my face lit up.. it could have been worse.. i went home and followed the MAF cleaning steps as per the link above.. the temp sensor, normally amber, was the same colour as the plastic - BLACK.. few sprays with the ECC and it was clean.. i let it dry overnight and now about 50km jerk free and car feels MUCH more responsive!!! so far no cell and all is well *knock on broli\'s head*

Would cleaning the MAF sensor be advisable for those without an aftermarket intake?

yes.. the reason i said *especially* for ones with oiled filters is that more gunk/oil can deposit on the sensor rendering it ineffective sooner.. so i guess i\'ll clean the filter and MAF/TEMP every 30K or so.. i think i\'ve had my intake for about 40K

had this problem before after i cleaned and oiled my K&N filter for my accord v6.
the problem was that the oil residue got around the throttle body and started to build up with dirt around the throttle plate. this caused the/ hesitation stickiness during initial pedal application. if you hit the pedal harder, it releases from the gummed up filter oil and abruptly opens the valve, causing the jerk..i would suggest you clean your throttle body with a tooth brush and a cleaner, you will see the crap that\'s stuck on the valve.
make sure you get around the top and bottom of the plate.

try this first before you go to the dealer..i am pretty sure this is the cause.

Wouldn\'t cleaning the MAF be part of the regularly scheduled maintenance?

thx.. i\'ll try that if cleaning the MAF/TEMP sensor isn\'t sufficient.. so far so good tho.. i will be cleaning the intake shortly anyway so might as well go a step further!

So clean it before you jerk... or is it don\'t clean it and you will start jerking??

With the temp sender..? Does it get hot or over-heated while you are jerking down the road?

Maybe I will come... With my other car. Could it be the fuel pump? Ya ya... I am going to search now ha ha.

Funny I had the same thing it started Sunday for me. My car is @ erin mills mazda. Wish I had of read this thread sooner. Ah well. Maybe mine is different, maybe not.

Went to the part source today to pick up a spray can of the electronic cleaner. Took out the MAF. Cleaned it. Just letting it dry now and then i'll post if it worked for me too! It was black also. I just want to make the CEL go off :)

I will just post for a 3rd time since this thread isn't popular!

Magic, when you cleaned your MAF did your CEL light go off? Mine drives much better but my CEL is still on. I guess I can unhook the battery but I wanted to see if it would go off on its own.

err.. "j" ;)

now that i'm out of warranty ;) i think my problem had to do more with the MAF wire loom being stretched (still attached to the battery box) when i had my intake in :blush

it's been honky-dory ever since i put the stock intake back on and cleaned the MAF.. soon i will put the simota intake back on but unhook the MAF wires from the battery box and hopefully i'll be all good..
