Here's my news for the week. I realized in April I will be within a few miles of one of the 3 tracks I have to drive before I die, Laguna Seca (the others are Spa and the Nordschliefe). I don't travel a lot so I want to take advantage of this. I look at their schedule and - TRACK MAINTENANCE. I'm there April 18-22 and they're prepping for the United Sports Car Championship May 1-3. Still going to visit but there's zero chance of me getting on the track or even seeing some cars go around. BOO. HISS.

In better news, I figured out what to get my dad for his birthday in March. He has a vintage Smiths Everest watch from the 60s, which apparently hasn't run right for a long time. I think it's time to get it serviced :)

Fun fact. Tobogganing amongst other things was banned on Sundays into Toronto in the beginning of the 20th century because it was the Lord's day and a mandatory day of rest. Cops were stationed at Christie pits lol.
Now you know....

Banning it because of a safety concern is ridiculous, just like the different bylaws outlawing road hockey on quiet residential streets.

They aren't really doing it for the safety of the people. It's more to prevent the continuous litigation against the city for injuries/damages. It's easier to say well it's "illegal" than have to pay out a whole bunch of money.

Then again, that hasn't stopped people from suing before.

And yeah, it's a bit ridiculous. Some idiotic woman went off a ski jump on a sled and got pretty ****ed up. She then sued the city and won. Some guy also sued, think he hit a fence but didn't get money.It's not just the city/governments fault their control is going a bit crazy, it's the peoples fault too. You just need to take them out of the admin group before banning. Technically you could make it so there's not any user (admin or otherwise) that can login by removing them from groups in the mysql db directly.

Usual bans are just the account. If a user registers a second account a lot of boards (not sure if it's built in now to vbulletin) will automatically detect duplicate users.

That said, you can ban/block a lot of other things such as email address, entire email domain, individual ip addresses, entire subnets, and also a user's browser (via cookie) that once they have logged in with any banned account, they can't get to the site as any user or logged out.

Lots of options :)

Not possible to IPban i can change my IP anytime i want. I could be in UK,Singapore,Brazil, Vancouver or usa for example in 5 seconds. It's really not rocket science.

Wow, you know how to use a proxy, good for you...there are a lot of other ways to keep an annoyance out. There are ways to ban by mac address and even at various hops in the network path so hiding behind a proxy doesn't work.

As for the stunt driving thing. Yes snow drifting can fall under that but its at the officer's discretion. This is sorta hard to tell from outside as there is a fine line between losing control and recovering and snow drifting. If anything snow drifting should be done at slow speeds and only if there are no risks involved regarding hitting any cars or blind corners. Now you guys may call me out on saying that its still bad but face it, most of us car guys have done it in the past.

I'm blessed to live were I do. Some of the best twisty mountain driving in the country is right out my doorstep. While racing on the street is stupid, it's easy to have legal fun when the speed limit is 80 or 90 and the suggested speed on corners is dipping as low as 20. Isolated mountain roads with very few side roads. Hwy6 in bc east of Vernon.

Just make sure to check your fluids/tire pressure/brakes before and after tracking. While a single track day shouldn't do any excess wear and tear to your car in most cases but its always a good idea to check especially if you plan on going hard on it. Tracking your car involves quite a bit of wide open throttle and also heavy braking. Of course you dont have to go all out but what's the fun in not giving er? :P
