Hi,
I'm looking at getting winter tires, and don't want to use the existing wheel lug nuts for the steel rims. Does anybody know what size the lug nuts are? It's for a '06 Sport GT if that matters at all.

Thanks

Why don't you want to use the stock lugs? I will be using mine.

I think they would really stand out and look weird..."chrome" wheel nuts on black steelies.

Sorry, I was making a reference to stealing your winter tires which would not have a wheel lock on em..

Too obscure... D'oh.

Well I would use the wheel locks that came with the car. ;)

Use the stock wheel nuts on steelies.* As for wheel locks Mazda does not reccomend that you use them on the steel wheels but people do so anyways.

Hey queens49 if you don't like the black steelie look may I suggest a set of 16" Mazda6 wheel covers?

So if you don't recommend using the lugs, do we need to buy 4 more from you do you sell just 4?

I see no reason why the locking nuts can't be used on the steelies? I wonder what their reasoning is.

I'll keep those covers in mind. Don't know if I'll have the cash right away though. A set of winters is pretty darn expensive :'(

Here's why you're not really suppose to use wheel locks on steelies.

It has something to do with the thickness of the steel wheel as compared to the alloy wheel. The end of the wheel lock will strip. The wheel lock nut is longer than the stock nut which is shorter so there isn't an issue of stripping.

OK so back to the question at hand, what size, or where can I get a regular lug nuts for my steelies?

I totally missed this post before. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. When torqued properly, I don't see how any of the nuts can strip?

i think 21 mm

i am not sure!

i put my winters on on sat!

i dont use my wheel locks, (mostly cause i busted 2 of them)

where to get them . . .
tires23 sells them for 1.50 each
i think they are 90cents at performance improvements on queensways and islington
probably any tire shop or performance shop would have them??
