I posted a similar question on the mazda3forums but I thought maybe the northern brethren here might have more experience.

Has anyone done it on a 5 door hatch? I have an '05.

Thanks!

find a non moving piece :P

seriously my friend is all into that portaging and he was putting it on.. oh actually shit i just rememebred

4 foam pads
2 of those tie thingies going throug...

ok talked to my buddy on googletalk.. here's the geeky response (told him to use the industry jargon.. lol)

Four canoe-carrying foam blocks were put on the gunnel of the canoe.
The blocks have flat bottoms--each block sits near the corners of the roof.
Two 2000-lb non-ratcheting cam straps (webbing) were passed over the hull of the boat, then around and underneath the roof (i.e. with the doors open) and back to the cam where they were tensioned and knotted.
Y-cam straps were used to tie the bow and stern of the boat to frame-anchors on the front and back corner of the car's frame (i.e. under the bumper areas).
All straps were then re-tightened and adjusted.

this is one of the strap thingies.. except you need a longer one ;)
