Hey folks...nice to see you all again!

All 4 of my '04 hatch 17" wheels are bubbling around the centre cap.* Though I'd read a while back on the old forum that some T.O. area owners were getting theirs either replaced or refinished no charge by Mazda.* Anyone had or know of someone who had this done.
Mazda of Canada did say they knew of couple of 3's in Quebec (blamed it on the salt) but it wasn't a common problem.
Thanks for any help.

Some dealers will replace the rims others will send them out to be refinished. It really all depends on the dealer's Mazda rep.

everfeb, good to see you made it to the forum.

flip, can I bring them in to a dealership when I have tires off and my winters on? or do they need to be on the car to prove I own a mazda 3? I have 2 that are brutal, 2 I have already refinished myself.

It's better if they're on the car. Don't mention that you had the others refinished. Mazda will not cover damaged or scuffed rims.

Thanks FLIP...do you know...is it common in the T.O. area that MOST dealers are taking this seriously or is it just a selectfew? So I have to get my dealer to get their area rep to look at them? My dealer in Steinbach Manitoba says he'd never seen this before and although I asked him to look into it I haven't heard anything back.

On the bubbling rims there is a huge amount of rust on the inside next to the centre cap. Is this common with all wheels? Or is this part of the bubbling problem?

Thanks for your help.

The bubbling is mainly in the center cap area. What do you expect when the rims are made in Taiwan. ::)

check your PM

basically states that Picasso posted a VERY long and detailed post on the crashed site about how he got Avante Mazda to replace ALL his rims that were also bubbling at the centre cap.

Yeah he basically bitched and complained about everything on his car to them so they finally gave in and replaced them. ::)

I got mine replaced back in may @ MOT. It wasn't really the center caps but the rims itself that were bubbling badly. Just went in for an oil change and they replaced them.

Thanks...my centre caps are fine too, it's the area around them on the wheel itself that is bubbling.

FlipDaddio...thanks. One question you didn't answer...in your opinion is it up to the area rep to determine a course of action on bubbling wheels or can a dealer decide? Thanks.

Regardless of where the rims are made it's not quite right that 1000's and 1000's of 3 owners have perfectly good wheels and a FEW of us have this bubbling issue. I would think that MOC could simply return defective wheels to their supplier and get all or most of their money back-so it shouldn't cost them much to take care of this problem.

Thanks for your help.

Is this within the 80k warranty thing?

Mine have been in sitting in the basement since summer but I just went over my warranty

My 3 is approaching the end of it's warranty and the bubbling is getting progressively worse. Hopefully either Avante or MOT will replace or refinish them.

Something to keep in mind... if they're using a reputable refinisher like Carcone's up in Aurora, you're probably better off having them refinished than replaced.

Wheels I've had refinished there have come out better than new and if you end up with replacement, you may just end up having the same issue down the road.

Airport Mazda offered to refinish my wheels. I'm not sure if I will take them there though.

Ask them if they will be doing it themselves (not likely) or outsourcing it to someone else. You're better off going directly to Cacone's like Weasel said.

Hi!

I had the same issue, I believe it was last year. They were replaced thou, all 4. What I did is, I printed the complaints of some members form the crashed site with some picture as well and showed it to them. Westowne Mazda is the dealer. It took few weeks. Is under warranty so no charge.

Thanks for all the help. Sorry to take so long to reply.

My dealer in Steinbach, Manitoba went to bat for me with his area rep
and I have in my possession a new set of 17" wheels resting in the basement waiting for summer. Thank you Dennis. Thank you Mazda.
