when storing summer rims/tires, is there something that can be put on them so that moisture does not destroy them? vaseline? i think someone on tm3.com said to spray them with wd-40?

When I store my summer/winter rims and tires I just make sure they're clean and cover them up with a sheet or something to keep the dust and dirt off. Seems to be working so far with no ill effects.

Putting WD-40 would just dry them out faster.

Put nothing on them and cover them up.

+2....

Putting the cardboard in between is important, also make sure that they rest on a piece as well. You don't want the rubber being in direct contact with cold cement, it will damage it over the winter.

I put cardboard on the ground, put the wheels/tires in bags, and then just stack them up. What's the value in putting a piece of cardboard between each one?

vaseline?

Not a good idea... Wanna know what that does to a tire? Read the side of a condom box.

i'm diggin this up from the dead...from the posts above, are you guys storing them inside or outside?

I have a shed in my backyard and that's where we typically keep the summer tires/wheels...but this being my first set of summer performance tires, i'm wondering if i have them in the shed in the cold, if it'll have any ill effects when i use them again in the summer....wouldnt' the moisture dry out the tires resulting in a harder compound by summer? Less grippy?

Mine are stored in an unheated garage on a stand I bought from Canadian Tire. The stand goes on sale a lot during the fall and spring. It also comes with a mesh cover that goes over all 4 wheels. Works great!

I have the same thing, bought it 3 weeks ago when it was half price. The legs/feet are a bitch to get on though.

I also put a coat of 303 on both sides of my rims and sidewall of the tires.

Yes but not near the furnace or heat source, it will dry out the rubber compound faster.

PS. If anyone is shopping at CanadianTire there is a $10 off $40 coupon or $20 off $40 if you use a CT Options card with the follosing coupon.
