Anyone planning to line up and get either of the systems?

The wii looks quite fun and is much cheaper (ps3 =$659 & Wii = $279)

I'm still debatin between the 2...

I was thinking about getting the Wii first (not at launch), before the PS3. However, there is a rumour that the Wii may be getting DVD playback capabilities sometime next year.

There is a Best Buy that I pass on the way to work. I think I'll just take a peak at the line up before heading into work. Doors open at 8am on Friday (PS3 launch date) and Sunday (Wii launch date).

The Wii is only getting DVD playback in Japan. They said it will not be released in N.A. Why do you want another DVD player anyway? I'm getting a Wii. You shouldn't need to line up for one since there will be more than double the number of units compared to PS3.

Well, if you haven't seen pictures from the Japanese launch, looks like it's going to be brutal lining up. Just bring your camping gear. LOL. I'm going downtown tonight to check out the line-up at BestBuy.

It's going to be the luck of the draw if you can actually get your hands on a PS3 on launch day. Good luck.

BTW, I think they're posting PS3 quantities at the door of each BB and FS store.

I just went to the Markham Futureshop store (Warden and Hwy 7)
at 8:40pm there were
12-14 people waiting outside the store.

I do believe all the ps3's have been spoken for at that store if each individual buys one.
that is if pearly's source is correct in saying there's only 10 ps3's per store.

They all had camping chairs... looked really comfy.. hell one guy even got the store to hook up a extension cord from inside the store so he can use his laptop.
The weather is not bad.. warm.. misty...

OK, earlier I was just kidding. I tried picking up a Wii on Friday from Best Buy but there was already a line up in front of the store at 7:15am! I decided to try to buy online starting at 10am. At the stroke of 10 they put up 125 units. After a few tries I was able to get one in my basket, but by the time I entered my credit card 3 digit security number and clicked on Confirm Order, I got the dreaded "the item in your shopping basket is sold out" message!

My cousin called me this morning. Being a former Costco employee and still on good terms with his former boss, told me he got a call from his boss telling him that his former Costco location was about to receive a small number of PS3's and Wii the next morning. He was told to come before 9am this morning if he wanted in. Not only did he pick up 2 20GB PS3's be he also picked up a Wii. He knew I wanted a Wii more than a PS3 so he gave me first dibs on the Wii. I picked up the Wii from him this afternoon, but while I was at his house he was "dangling" the PS3 in front of me.

I went home with both units. ;D

I still haven't unpacked the PS3 because the Wii is so much fun!

There are a few demos that you can download from the Sony website (Moto Storm, Resistance, etc.), but it's also a place to put your internet cache since there is a web browser built into the PS3. You can also store your photos and music right on the PS3's hard drive as well.

I've just started playing Zelda, I'm having too much fun with Wii Sports. I just bought myself a wireless router so I can surf the net on Wii.

The mulitplayer game most people are playing is Resistance: Fall of Man. It's 40 player deathmatch/team deathmatch.

The component cables can be found on eBay...for over $100! Everywhere else is sold out until the middle of December at the earliest.

You can use Miis in Wii Sports, WarioWare, and some other games. And they can appear in the background... and they'll mingle and travel to other Wii's and interact in the Mii channel... just what i found from a google search.

Anyone looking for a Wii component cable, they are available through Nintendo (shipped from BC). I ordered mine on November 30 eventhough they were still back ordered. On December 2 I noticed that the status was changed from "Backordered" to "Preparing Shipment". Today they've shipped out.

Here's a tip to recharge your PS3 controllers:

If you have a set-top box from Rogers, the 3250 has a powered USB port on the front. Since your STB is always powered, plug in the USB cable that came with the PS3 into that port and recharge your controller. No need to leave your PS3 on to recharge the controller's battery!

if you keep in touch with bb and fs and find out when they getem in you'll be fine.... Earlier on in the thread I thought I got one from the BB website it turned out I didn't checkout and I never got it... I went the next friday to FS @ 9am and there was a line up 25 ppl and 27 consoles so I got one right away anf left. They even had 3 ps3s.

Even the remotes are easy to get now! You can find em pretty much at any zellers now(in brampton atleast).

Yes, I see a difference...in some cases, not for the better. The edges are are now more "jagged", but the colours are much richer. I still have to fire up Zelda to see how that changed. Make sure your friend set their Wii to progressive scan.

Unless your TV or receiver upscales, there's no hope in hell for 1080p on a Wii. As long as my PS3 or XBox 360 can display a 1080p signal, I won't be holding my breath for a 1080p Wii.

The 360 and the PS3 were meant for hi-def gaming, that was their intent from day 1. The Wii wasn't meant for hi-def gaming, but rather playability and fun. Nintendo wanted a broader audience for their console.

Online gaming? not yet.

The mii's will let you send to another wii users system to use in wii sports.
For instance when you're playing bowling and you're choosing a player, after bluntman sends you his mii you can choose him to play with. Or it lets him use it when he comes over to play at your house.

Alright, looking for an honest unbiased answer here:

I am not crazy into gaming (actually, I'm not into gaming at all). My wife bought me a PS2 for my birthday about three years ago, I played it for six months and it's been sitting there collecting dust ever since. I found some of the games to be quite a bit of fun like Gran Turismo and the Crash series, but nothing was ever addictive. I still have two games that are brand new in the shrink wrap that are almost a year old now (gifts).

So now that you have my history, do you think I would like a Wii? I have to say, I'm quite tempted to pick one up (if i could find one) as they look like a blast to play. I don't care about the not so great graphics, lack of HD, and all that jazz. I just want something that the wife and I could play and would genuinely have some fun doing so.

If the answer is yes, where can I find one? A friend at work said he just walked into a Toys R Us and they had a bunch, but that was a week ago and they have since sold out.

Any input would be welcome.

I bought the Nintendo component cables. The colours are more vivid and they give you a little bit more detail than with the composite cables. They are definitely worth the $30. I would not pay more than that for the "enhanced", third party component cables available elsewhere.

Wii's are few and far between. Since you have a connection at a retailer, ask them to hold you a console. I have only found the classic controller, the ASID component cables, the Wii Points card and, on rare occassions, the Wii-mote. Nunchuks are difficult to locate.

I only have connections with 2001 A/V who do not carry any gaming systems. I'll just keep an eye out and hope for the best. Eventually retailers should begin to have enough stock to meet demand.

To my experienece, EB games do'nt get a lot of shipments unless the others are diff. Cause the one at markville mall one only gets about 10. My bet is either FS or BB. But non the less if you have time check all of them out.

remotes you can find pretty much anywhere.... nunchucks are hard to find.... I called walmart one day and they had one left so i jumped on it... to be honest if you like wii sports, wait untill feb 12 when wii play comes out. For $60 you get wii play (a bunch of mini games) and a remote.

So after a long round of poker we started playing, and end up
playing all night! Then before we realized, it was 8am so off
we go to Toys.... Figures the first guy in line got there
at 4:00!!

So they started handing out the tickets for the 34 consoles they had,
figures the last one to get the ticket was the lady standing in front
of me!

So we just went back to my place and continued playing wii till
2am haha
