I'm going to start selling things with my dad on ebay... I was wondering if anyone has some good tips for me so I dont get robbed...
So far I'm ONLY gonna take pay pal and only gonna ship to North America but they also told me people can say they didn't recieve the item and get their money back from paypal and what not... Is there anyway to get around this? insurance? adding insurance to the shipping? Maybe some of you guys can shine some light for me, Im new to this selling on ebay game :)

Any other tips or comments are welcome....
TIA

i've only sold one item on ebay.. and i shipped it expresspost letter style (u can print the shipping label right from ebay/paypal and if you feel more comforable drop it off at the post office vs a mailbox - in my case it was a letter envelope so i did the latter).. added a dollar for 'signature required' .. just make sure you send with insurance and so that it can be traced.. keep all the receipts and emails for 30-60 days (whatever paypal/ebay uses for disputes).. if you know the item WILL sell, start it at 1c as the insertion fee will be lower but if it makes ti to 10bux and it's worth 100 then you're SOL unless u ask a friend for a bump ;)

Well majic pretty much covered the things to watch out for when shipping, but there is also the obvious things like be weary of new members who have no history. Also, many people will hate me for saying this, but you should try and keep your shipping chargers a little high while offering a lower selling price. This will make the item you're selling appear more attractive, and you end up paying less fees to eBay. If you'll be shipping items with couriers like Purolator, make sure to open a volume account with them as you'll save a ton over paying full retail.

I'd say post it up on this board first and see what you have.
Less risk.

Insurance? Have the buyer pay for all shipping, handling and insurance charges.

make sure the item has a tracking number so that the buyer cannot say he didnt receive it. Someone tried to pull that on me when i sold my car pc. So i pulled out the tracking number and said sorry was delivered to the adress you gave me yesterday. Never heard back from the guy lol

i think as a seller, you're most worried about buyers claiming the item lost or not recvd and reverse the $ from paypal. Then you as the seller are screwed, no money, no product.

I would suggest accepting money orders....but that takes a lot of faith on the part of the buyer as well. Or ship to only confirmed address with paypal.

Well here's my experience with selling on ebay.* I sold mainly toys, about 50-60 or so, so the package was fairly small.* I have never had a buyer return saying that they never received their package, or that it was even late.

I sent all deliveries through Canada Post.* Find a link in my favourites about the prices of stuff to send: http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/tools/pg/manual/CPCPrices-e.asp#i21
I basically offered two choices, ground or air.* Air has tracking number and they would pay extra for it.* Ground would take longer, no tracking number, and all shipping losses were basically their fault.* And this was all insured up to $100, which was plenty for the stuff I was selling.

If you're going to go this route, consider selling ONLY to the USA.* For some odd reason, shipping to Canada is alot more expensive.* Like I remember sending a small package to this one town, and I searched it up and it was about a 2 hour drive away, but it cost well over $7 to ship.

For packaging, I put everything in a bubble-wrap envelope.* They're cheap, roughly 4 for a dollar at any dollar stores, and people really like them.* I also print out and pu in a packing information sheet that you can print from ebay.* Not sure if you want to do it, but I got used to it and it makes things easier to sort.

That's against the terms of service and is supposed to get you banned.
Hard to police stuff like this though since people can create a bunch of accounts.

Be wary of dealing with people with low feedback.
