I own a 2004 Mazda 3 GT Sport (61k kms). On average I'm getting only 8-9kms per litre of gas. My wife drives this car and I know she doesn't race it. Frankly I'm a little concerned with this car. I had posted the same question last year and someone on this forum told me to stop using Sunoco Gas due to the ethanol content in their gas. This improved the mileage, but now I'm expecting to get atleast 10 kms/litre but nothing. The only modification done to the car is that I always get gas from Petro Canada, I've changed the air filter to a K&N and I only use Mobile 1 5W20 oil with Mazda filter.
ANy suggestions out there or are you guys experiencing the same issue

What's wrong with 8km to 9km per L of gas? Is the car an automatic or manual? How about the type of driving (highway or city)? What were you expecting from a 2.3L engine? 6km to 7km per L like a Corolla?
::)

I was expecting atleast 10km per litre with that size engine. Yes the car is automatic and the driving is a mix of city & hiway. I'm comparing this car to my current Toyota Highlander (SUV) with a 2.4L automatic engine which I consistently get over 10kms/l of gas. My previous cars where similar in engine size but probably heavier than the mazda, and I would average over 10kms/L of gas.

im make 9.7-9.8L/100km, which is a litre every 10.2km (shifting at under 3k rpm, most of the time at 2.5k)
if i drive more spiritly (which isn't that spirited at all) it's 10.5L/100KM, which is 9.5km/L (shifting at somewhere between 3.5k-4k)
I've heard from some other members that they are getting 13L/100KM+
This is how our cars are..
Toyota has a better fuel efficient engine than mazda, their vvt is great.
-Chuckie
edit: heck, aren't there like members who get just over 400 a tank?

Yep I was getting 400km to a tank... but with the new engine and exhaust for some reason I am getting 500km or more a tank now.

8km/L = 12.5L/100km = teh suck
11km/L = 9.1L/100km = teh better and roughly what the majority is getting on a ankof mixed driving (11-12km/L) or 8-9L/100km

My bad, I was reading the km thing wrong. I thought he was getting 8L/100km and complaining. :)

So tell me everyone, am I wasting my time going back to dealer and asking them to look into this?? Personally I find it rediculous and unexceptable!!!
Or is there anything I can do to increase the fuel efficiency on this car????

270 when the light pops on I assume... that would make it 270/45L, the 10L leftover after light was also correct on my Mazda3 (55L Tank) 16.6L/100k WTF?
I get 360 on the dot pretty much every time @ Fuel Light which is +/- 1L of 50 (60L Tank)L....so 360/50L 13.8L/100k 50/50 City-HWY (Sunoco 94)
Your car weighs about 400LBS less...and I am boost happy thats for sure, so something seems outa place...do you check that your car turns off at 30s since you put in your turbo timer...eheheh jks
well i run on 94 only and i have 540 km now on my 3rd tank ... and i think there is a problem with mine it runs rich and back fires >:( ohh and my gas pedal sticks i just touch it a litl and its drops down by its self and redlines for about 2 to 3 seconds ... having that checked out monday

my light comes on when the trip has around 30 km remaining. I don't think there's anyway of going another 70km's when the trip says 0km remaining, or is there? assuming i get 10L/100km of course.

do some research in MS6 and MS3 forums... Mazdas don't like to vent to atmo for some reason...its better if you do recirc...
I have also seen something where the HKS was problems because of the gasket that mates the bov to the car...can't rememeber where it was that I saw it...

i drive 06 2.3L auto.
i get 9.6L-9.8L/100KM and I drive rather spirted.
i had problems with fuel consumption before i installed my HIDs. ( i installed my HIDs when I had 3000KM? on the car)
it could be cause I disconnected the battery.
I use sunco 87 or shell 87.

heh. Seriously. If I hadn't been there myself, I wouldn't have believed it. My wife was giggling like a schoolgirl as we made it along the final stretch doing only a couple km/h and my friend in the back seat was convinced we were gonna have to push the car up the incline into the gas station. I was grinning ear to ear as we rolled up the ramp and right up to the pump. I barely had to touch the brake to stop. :D

all you complaining about getting 9-10L / 100km, realize how lucky you are. either the computer in my car is messed or there is another problem (ie my driving ;D), but with my 06 GT ATX, i get 11.2L/100km, average speed to went up to 29km/h, 98% city driving.

so i got a nice surprise from my trip to NJ/PA
what pissed me off was that one time when i filled up th eneedle didn't go past F as it normally does (1 tick) that's why i averaged it all out and still 7.54L/100km is wicked.. mind you it was mostly highway (800km at a time) plus some local driving.. driving back, at night (3rd fill) i was in a group of 5 cars switching the lead positions @ about 4000-4500RPM so it's not like i was granny driving it like MK does ;)

Nice. The best I've ever done (while actually burning gas) was back in May of this year when I got 650 km out of 47L of gas. That's only 7.23 L/100km though. I've never managed 6.anything.

I just got some of my worst mileage of the year on my last tank as well. Over 13L/100km.
I checked my log, and it looks like the same thing happened around this time last year. I wonder if the ECU needs some time to figure out what to do with the cold weather?

Sounds to me like you need a full tune-up. There are probably hundreds of things that can cause poor fuel efficiency. Start with the basics first - air filter, injectors...

They're trying to quantify your actual consumption.
Saying "I usually get x km's on a tank" is as useful as a butt dyno is for quantifying power gains. You just can't make heads or tails of it.
Once they've got some real numbers to work with, they can determine whether it's normal or needs more investigation.
