View Full Version : POSSESSED LCD Information Display!
I tried googling and searching for this issue through all the old threads, but couldn't find anything... Has anyone encountered this problem before??
I drove my 2006 M3 today at around 6pm and the display was fine. I turned it on again at 8.30pm and the display was flickering EVERY possible piece of information (air direction, temp, clock, etc.) it can show the operator - but nothing was legible!! Also, the light would not turn off, even when I turned off the entire audio system. Everything works properly though... the radio, CD, etc, but I just can't see anything... I also tried turning the car off/on, but that didn't help... Anyone know what's happening???
I'm sure this will be covered under warranty, but does anyone know if I'll have to leave my car there and borrow one from the dealer?
Any help is appreciated!
I can post a pic of my possessed LCD display later...
Here's a pic of the LCD (non)display flickering issue...
I remember reading something about this on either this forum or m3f.com. Either way... I would say take it in... They'll most likely replace it if it is not working properly.

I had this problem before. Was parking, turned off the car then turned it back on and saw this mumbo jumbo. The dealer took out the unit and said they would replace it and put it back in for me. As I drove out of the lot it worked. I think the problem is that there is a loose connection or something that you need to plug back in. I've never had any problems with the LCD display since then.

Mine's getting replaced under warranty. The information on it is correct, but it has blotches and black crap under the screen (looks like ass). It takes a couple of weeks for the dealer to order the new screen.
Thanks everyone for your replies!
I took my car to a dealership today and the guy said it's covered under warranty and that he had to order the part. It'll take a couple of days and a couple of hours to install.

LOL.. install should take 1hr max from the minute you leave your keys with them to the second you get your washed car back... but since it's under warranty they can charge you 10hrs of labour for all you care..

WASHED car, eh? All dealerships do this, even for warranty work? (This is the first time I've brought my car in for repair)..

Yes, generally dealerships will wash your car when in for service, etc.
But I prefer to not have them wash it since they just use a brush and basically install some swirls in your paint while they are at it.

what he said.. just see if they use a brush or a pressure wash/touchless.. if it's the latter then go for it..
Glad you are getting it fixed under warranty!
Only when I had a very major repair did they wash it... and every time since :)

Which "magical dealer" washes cars. Mine has never done that and I've generally felt pretty badly treated by the one near HWY7 and Kennedy every since I got it.

Oh that one?
Just ask and they might wash your car. Don't always assume that the dealer will wash the car.

Thanks, blackman!! :) I just hope this is the only issue I have with my car this year *crosses fingers*

I'm not really sure, Kitten... The service guy said he never saw it happen before! Weird...

Yeah, but just like Derrick and majic said, make sure it's touchless wash!! :)
Update: Brought my car into the dealer and the LCD display was replaced within 30 minutes. Was not offered a car wash and didn't ask for one. I asked the service guy what could have caused the problem but he didn't know and mentioned it's a known issue. For what it's worth, when I got the car back, all my radio presets were still there and the time on the clock was correct. :)

i wonder if they ever disconnected the battery or actually took time to take down the presets and adjust them back to normal after they finished the job.. i'll go with the battery ;)
