View Full Version : Mileage on RSA's?

Just wondering what mileage people are getting from their stock RSAs? I just recently suffered a couple of tire mishaps (damn nails), anyways while the tires were off I noticed my tread has worn quite a bit, I only have 30k on them and its looks like, if I'm lucky maybe another 10k left on them!!...Thats a pretty crappy life span for any tire IMO. In case anyones wondering I check my tire pressure once aweek and have had no alignment problems.

Thanks,

I think 40k is pretty much what they are good for.
Less if you put them through the winter.

They wear extremely fast. I'm only using mine in the summer.

Are you down to your low tread indicaters yet?

1 fall 1 winter and 1 summer = 25k = new tires for me.

Not yet but pretty close....I guess from the responses so far its pretty normal for these tires to wear fast, which is quite a dissapointment considering the replacement cost.I guess I should start putting the loonies away for a new set this summer,....there goes the exhaust budget out the window :-(

i took my RSAss off at ~70K but the two winters were driven on my w300s (14K and 11K ) so that would put the RSAss at ~45K

two tires were done and the other 2 had 5K tread in them, maybe a tad more..

The problem is that all seasons with a rim size of 17" are performance all seasons which are quite pricey. I learned this the hard way a while ago while searching high and low for low price all seasons to fit my stock rims.

The best setup is a set for winter (dedicated) and a set for summer (performance).

You'll find you can get quite the grippy summer tire for a reasonable (and cheap compared to RSA) price.

Good tires are the best performance modification. It may not be something everyone sees, or hears. But you will know the next time you throw you're 3 into a bend.

And thats for a set!! Compare that to RSAs. My dealer quoted me over 700$ for a set of 4 RSAs!!

I never drive my 3 in the snow so two sets are not for me but I'm looking at maybe summer tires and right now I'm leaning toward Hankook which have been getting pretty good reviews lately....this is hard for me to say because I've always been partial to Michelin tires, but lately they haven't been doing too well and their pretty costly to boot!

The Z24/Sunfire GT people have known this pain since 1995. They came with RS-A's since the beginning of the 3rd gen J-body. I was just about to get rid of mine on my Z24 when it was written off. Now I buy a Mazda 3 GT Sport and it has brand new RS-A's on it - The only thing I didn't like about the car.

Curiously, I never found that the wear rate was much of a complaint with them. Quite the opposite, actually. Everything else about them sucked so you WANTED them to wear faster so you'd have an excuse to replace them... but they wouldn't.

I changed mine over to toyo proxes 4 @ about 30k. I was shocked one day when the mazda dealer said my tires were not safe after an oil change. They said to replace them asap. So the week after I did.

Are you kidding? Those things wore down so fast... You didn't even have yours for the full life.

I was quoted $230 + tx + install for one @ a tire shop in burlington when I was going to replace them. I wanted to know what the shit tire was worth. LOL.

I would seriously advise against running either the Toyos or RSA's anywhere close to the wear bars...and never ever in WINTER...ever

I used my Toyo's only in the summer time, when getting close to the wear bars sometime around 25K on any kind of wet day whether light or heavy the car would be loose, it was predictable but annoying. Starting from lights would be non-stop slip with any kind of brisk acceleration especially a headache when the engine mounts allow the engine to jackrabbit inside the compartment....

Use the tires up untill 25K or so and toss em...or sell them to somebody that might need to replace on of theirs or whatever...a cup of coffee usually lol

Get a set of the cheapy summers...ie Hankooks/Kumhos....something that will grip well, provide good wear for the 2 seasons......and get a set of winters for the rest of the time

heh. I voted for 60k+ just so I could see what everyone else voted. :D Mine never actually wore out... I sold them when I got my brake kit and couldn't use them anymore.

Good thinking Biz! Maybe people can also chime in what mileage they manage to get on other tires also, ...in their posts obviously. We can basically be our own consumer reports in a sense.

You idiot. That's what the "View Poll Results" link is for!

Incidentally, I voted too - but for the RS-A's I had with my Z24.
