Hey guys. My car just got towed cause it suddenly won't start.
I went out to eat dinner with my friends and when i came out just about to go home, the car won't start. No crank at all. There is battery because i can turn on my headlights, i have power window, and brake lights.
I recently about a week ago, just got a transmission replaced. Will it be anything like there is no ground?
The car was running fine the whole day and it just happen so suddenly.
One thing i'm worried about now is i know its going to be under warranty but if it has anything with the engine and they have no records of my service at the dealer will they not give me warranty? I do all my oil change except for the first time and recently.
Any input will be appreciated.
thanks
And please don't tell me i can't drive cause it has nothing to do with my driving.

Did you hear a clicking sound when you were trying to start your car? Maybe there was enough power in the battery to turn on the lights etc, but not enough juice to turn the engine over. If this was the case, you would hear the starter clicking, but not turning b/c it doesn't have the power to turn the engine.

The car made no sound/noise at all. No clicking or whatever, and my car currently is towed to markham mazda because i was very close to that dealership.

Hey Kev, where did they tow your car to? I'm sure whatever it is that's causing the no start will be looked after.
Do you have service records from the other dealer? It's as simple as a phone call to your previous dealer so we can get a hold of your records.

Well the thing is my only service was the first oil change from avante and my tranny replaced at MOT and about 3000km ago oil change from MOT

Do you have receipts for oil and filters? That is usually enough. They can tell pretty quick if the oil or filter has not been changed recently. Though if you're not cranking at all, probably more like an electrical/starter issue.

Don't think i still have reciepts from the filters or oil. :( Crap!
I'll have to search for sure if i have filter receipts.

Had a similar problem with my old car once. Wouldn't start for some reason, left it overnight in the lot and it mysteriously started the next day and the problem never came back.
Strange, hope it's easily fixable. You have an auto right? Maybe it's something with the car thinking it's in gear when it really isn't.

If MM is gonna look at your car mention to them that you just replaced your tranny at MOT. Give me a holla when you find out what happened.

Good point!
It might be the tranny software problem.
Because the situation looks like when i'm in neutral and try to turn the car on it won't.
Strange. Hope you get it all sorted out. I know when I had my engine replaced they forgot to tighten the ground and my car kept shutting off (everytime I hit a bump and it would temp come off the car contact) until it killed the battery. Then it wouldn't crank at all. I couldn't even get my lights to go on or windows back up...
So what I am trying to say is... I don't think it would be a ground but I dunno for sure.
Starter relay ??? fuse box under the hood

The weird thing is that the car was running perfect and fine today. Put about 50k today np with no wierd noise or sound. And right now the car just hit exactly 30k when the car was parked in the parking lot where i ate dinner.

We'll i just picked my car back up today and funny thing is nothing happened to the car.
Before i went in the dealer, i tried starting the car again just to double check and it started!
I gave Joe a call and ask him if i should bring it in to check it out anyways but he said just to keep driving it for now and if anything like this happens again i should bring it back.
change the starter relay i bet it got frozen

Very strange!
But thank god for Road side assistance.
Arrived here in 5 mins.
I requested a flatbed but they had none available.
Good thing my car wasn't that low but there was only half an inch clearance from my lip to his bar.
And he also put a piece of wood under the wheel so he won't tear my lip out.
+1 for CAA service

possibly the starter problem, I had the same problem, so I went to Avante RH, then Joe (the service guy) told me the pins or wiring were burnt cause I have remote starter installed, cost me freaking $400 for the labour to re-do the wiring, still no go so he replaced w/the new starter at no cost.

Another possibility is the fuel pump.
Have you ever had a hard time starting the car in the mornings? Or had the car studder while driving along?

If it is the fuel pump, wouldn't the engine still crank but just not spark?
Cuz he said that it didn't do anything at all.

Sorry guys! forgot about this thread already.
Well i haven't done anything to the car yet since i'm so busy lately but so far the car is treating me good. No more not starting crap and starting is still really smooth.
New relay available? under warranty? or i'll have to pay? I still need to come by and get my filter replaced.

You can't just replace it for no reason. Got to have the symptoms.

Car is not starting again. Now the car is at FMP waiting to be towed. I want to ask. Can i request my car to be towed to MOT instead of markham mazda? or does it have to be towed to the closes dealer? Before this happened, today i felt the car was kinda sluggish. Idle was not normal and when i turned off my car and try to start it again it wouldn't.
I would think you have the option to tow it to the dealership you deal with... but I don't know the rules. It would be bad business for mazda to tow it for you to where they want... not where you deal.
When I had mine towed for the new engine I had it sent over to Erin Mills when Oakville mazda was closer. They were fine with it. :) If they had of sent it to Oakville Mazda or Burlington Mazda I would have sold the car. I don't trust them & they've screwed me over before.

I used to work for Mazda Roadside and back then (about 4 years ago), it was the closest dealership. You could opt to have it towed to your dealership of choice if it was within 25 km's of your location, but if you were outside of that area, you had to pay for any extra kms (at a highway robbery rate) over that 25 km limit.
I can't tell you how many times I got yelled at after explaining that to a pissed off dude whose car broke down in -20 degree weather.
Best thing to do is call Mazda Roadside and ask them what their rules are now. I doubt they have changed much since then.

New update.
Ok i just got back home and dropped of the car at MOT.
I asked the road side assistant lady and she said nearest dealership and plus 50 km. So the guy came and just when he roll the car to the bar, the car wheel hits the bar and then the guy tried to start it. IT STARTED!
The guy told me it might be a loose wire or something. And when the wheel hit something and gave the car a little bump the wire attached again.
So i drove the car to MOT myself and my friends came with me to drive me back home.
Tomorrow i'll be dropping my keys off to MOT AGAIN and see what they can do about it.
The ghey thing was that its sooooo cold today and i had to wait int he car until my friends came and its also a sunday coinsidently. Because last time it was a sunday as well.

seems more likely the starter problem as mine. and yes you can tow to any dealership within certain KM I think is 50s, so when mine were towed (3 times, YES THREE) 1 was to Av RH, twice to MOT from Miss. (Derry & Dixie)
Kevin@nextmod
02-12-2007, 11:16 PM
Well i went to MOt today and have them check my car. Waited about 15 mins and they brought my car out and told me there going to order me a new relay.
Lets hope its the relay, because i'd hate to stay out in the cold again.
i told you its a relay ..... BTW i have 1 here from my old M3

Aparently today my car failed to start again. Lucky this time is infront of my house. And found out its not the relay since i changed it to the new one already.
So now its 100% the tranny problem. I have mentioned this to Ali last time and he failed to put it down and help me do anything about it and kept telling me its the relay. Now i'm Going to have to get it towed to MOT AGIAN for the 3rd time and going there to bitch at whoever i can. So pissed now.

Have you tried this Pearly?
if your car is automatic... Put the key in the on position, not start, hold on the break and put the car to neutral... wait for a split second, and pop it back to park... start the car... Does that help?
It works on my dad's Sunbird all the time... Note... 227,000 plus and still original transmission.
Kevin@nextmod
02-25-2007, 01:42 AM
I've tried that 50 Trillion times and still no luck.
-RJ3-
02-25-2007, 01:47 AM
did the car jerk a bit? its sometimes an intial shake on the sunbird's engine to allow it to start again... With the sunbird it was always a solenoid switch... Dont ask me which one, because the mechanic replaced all of them. Not that I'm comparing our cars to domestics, but it might be similar.
Kevin@nextmod
02-25-2007, 01:52 AM
Well as i mentioned before. Its kinda like starting an automatic car in D or N. No crank no jerk no sound no click no nothing.
I'm thinking the tranny thinks or the computer think i'm in gear and won't let me start.

-RJ3-

or this...
Could be a starter issue
http://www.samarins.com/diagnose/index.html#starter
If you don't hear the cranking sound when you're trying to start your car, means that starter doesn't work - something could be wrong with the starter, starter wires, relay, or the battery is dead. Also check battery terminals, they could be corroded or loose.
Kevin@nextmod
02-25-2007, 02:07 AM
Its not the starter for sure.
Because everytime the car is done towing, and when the wheels hit something like there is a light impact the car will start back again. Thats what happened the 2nd time. The car was rolled to the bar on the tow truck and suddenly the truck driver tried to start it and it works. Really really weird.
-RJ3-
02-25-2007, 02:10 AM
same problem with the sunbird... Tow truck driver had a wooden block and hit something in the engine mount to start it back up.... i found rocking the car back and forth by doing your method (putting it from park to neutral and back again) works...
I hope you get it working bro.
Kevin@nextmod
02-25-2007, 02:13 AM
I was doign that with my friend today. Rocking the car back and forth and still no luck.
I really do hope i get things sorted out. Cause i'm still really fed up with the car.
CRAP!!!!!! Sorry to hear again. Hope you get this sorted out & then you win the lottery to make it all better. My fingers are crossed.

Good to hear it wasn't the problem I had a couple of years ago (blown fusebox).

02-25-2007, 08:38 PM
Well guys. Guess what?
Before i called roadside i was testing my luck to see if it works. And yes you guessed right, it started again WTF. I wasn't hoping for it to start so when i turned it i quickly let go but then suddenly i heard a little crank, so i turned it again and it start after 3 cranks. Wasn't a smooth start at all, so rough. Also i heard some very very very loud sssssssssssssssssss....... sound under the hood and found out it was where the belt is. I drove around the street and came back hoping it'd be gone but it was still there after 4 mins of driving.
Since my car started i let the car idle in the garage and quickly get change and called my friend to meet me a MOT. And now the car is sitting there over night.
And Blackman, thanks for all that. :) If i do win the lottery i'll share some of it to you and you can get your white speed 3 ;)
I really hope to get this all fixed cause i still want to keep this car.

Everyone talking about sunbirds, or oil changes or relay issues that only occur in -30C (according to TSB) or how something similar happened to their 72 Camaro needs to realize that this is a problem with the 3, I came on this board just to find out if anyone was having the same problem as me (05 Sport GT 34K), I'm glad I found someone else (though sorry you have to deal with it).
I was told it was an issue with the secondary security system attached to the ignition, that got fixed under warranty but didn't resolve the issue. One time CAA touched the starter with a pole, all of a sudden the engine turned over, for awhile I thought it was starting too soon after killing the ignition (to run into a store etc.) but this weekend proved that not to be the case after a 2 hour delay beyond stop and attempted start...waiting for a period after the car won't start usually works, the period has been anywhere from an hour to 6 hours...even though the engine will turnover with each event there is a noticeable performance hit...I'm booked into Gyro on Wednesday to try and get it resolved, I'll bring up some of the non-fixes already attempted and will report back what they say.
Is there any update from Pearly?
