View Full Version : How many kms did your 3 have when you picked it up?

TheProfessor

Just wondering how many km\'s were on the car when you took possession?

Ours had 6km on it, and I have no idea why it even had that many to be honest.

around 10 km... give or take a couple

1km when I went to see it on the lot. They let me test drive it around the block (3km). So a week later when I went to pick it up. 4km on it total.

I had the same (6km) so I think that\'s normal... But you\'re right, why would there be 6??

2km on delivery

I expected more, because the dealership said that sometimes they get their boys to go pick up the cars from the lot on Markham (dealer was in Pickering), so that they don\'t have to wait so long between the cars getting off the train, and the cars getting loaded onto the transport, and then dropped off at he dealer. As it was, I had to wait 5 weeks for my car....

I guess this wasn\'t the case for me, but you never know what other dealers do similar things

billyfo
06-14-2005, 06:27 PM
around 20, cause dealer had to locate the car from other dealership.

cars have to drive from the factory to parking lot, then drive to the loading truck or ship from Japan as our 3, then again drive to Vancouver loading dock, back to loading truck/train, then to dealership and finally PDI. So less then 25km is the normal mileage when we pick up the car.

I already asked Mazda Canada about it. They said it was normal. But it was funny how I found empty ketchup packets in my car when I brought it home. (Thanks ONTARIO MAZDA for using my car to pick up lunches... ****ers)

My GT had 3 km on pickup and the sales guys said sorry, but we had to drive it to the corner to fill with gas. I was impressed.

On the other hand, my wife\'s Camry had 70 km on pick-up and I almost refused to take delivery. I told the guy that I bought a \"new\" car, not a bloody demonstrator. I found Richmond Hill Toyota to be an unpleasant experience in general.

I haven\'t picked up my car yet,... but I would be very suspicious if it had anymore than 3 clicks on it...20 or 25 is not normal has mentioned earlier.I\'ve gone to several dealers and driven several M3s on test drives (10 to be exact):D And some of these vehicles had only 3 clicks on them.So I wouldn\'t expect my vehicle to have any more than that without a very good reason.

It is quite possible that cars with 10-25 were used for test drives like the ones you drove in. I highly doubt that they would not consider the car brand new if it only had 25 km\'s on it, regardless of where the km\'s came from. I don\'t agree with that, but I think that\'s just the case. I know that the cars do not come gassed up from the factory, so all cars have to be driven to a gas station to be filled up before pick up.

Flagrum_3
06-14-2005, 10:49 PM
I realize the gas part but my point was I\'ve been in vehicles with only 3 clicks on the odometer and they had gas, plus the way I see it I\'ve put my downpayment on my vehicle and been given the VIN for my vehicle and so far as I\'m concerned that vehicle is already mine.If they go using my vehicle for anything,...test drive, pick-up lunch,.... whatever, this may be a stretch, but thats almost like theft and I stress almost because they have taken my vehicle without my conscent.

Thats just the way I see it.

Cars usually have 2 km from the rail yard but after the PDI and trip to the gas station depending on how far it may be should have about 10-12 km.

DJB
06-15-2005, 07:37 AM
Is there an amount of KM\'s that would be deemed as unaceptable at pickup? I mean can you legally refuse to pick up your \"new\" car if it has past a certain amount of KM\'s on it?
I\'m only asking because mine is due to be picked up in about 2-3 weeks.

DJ\'B

FLIPDADY
06-15-2005, 07:40 AM
I\'m not too sure about that but we have customers that don\'t want to wait so we pick the cars up at the yard or another dealer. That would put on some km\'s on the cars.

don\'t worry, my mom previously drove 95 Altima bought new from Nissan (forget the name) at Yonge and north of Steeles, the one with GM/Saab, Nissan/Infinti and former location for T&C BMW. I didn\'t go to pickup the car with my parents cause needed to go to school. When I back home, they said car had 250km on it!!!!! but of course we had no way to complain cause they already signed the paper and several hours later when I noticed that.

And Flipspeed that sounds reasonable but, don\'t they do the PDIs right there? And isn\'t there a gas station not 1k from where you are? ...Just Wondering.

On the 500+ I have delivered I think the average would be between 2-12 km

The pound in Vancouver has to house all the cars for the countries \"Japan\" production vehicles (MPV, 3, 3S, MX5, RX8...) so the pound is like 2 km wide and 2 km deep. which means if they park a new car right at the back corner... 2+2+2+2... 8km plus the .6ish on it from the plant. plus gas and PDI...

the max should be about 15km I would estimate.

Most dealers dont have a dealership truck to pick-up dealer trades. (Avante does :)) so if they pick up the car at the yard or at another dealership. expect those km as well..

The lowest I have ever seen... 2 !

Jeff

2 on the matrix. The salesman let me test drive a brand new one, I think it was for delivery and not a demo. This was over a yr ago. I hope they gave them a free oil change, cause my uncle and I drove it hard.

Jeff-TheBiz
06-16-2005, 04:10 PM
honestly most dealers dont have the ability to have a test driver for every model/transmission...

I caution anyone who gets to test drive a new vehicle, there is a good chance that someone test drove yours... little scary.

Fuman
06-17-2005, 10:30 AM
the ppl who deliver cars (if they are driving it), they ususally drive it HARD (its a somewhat a sterotype) but I know a few ppl (worked at honda though) that drive them pretty hard.
I would have pick up the car from the port

TheProfessor
06-17-2005, 10:32 AM
I assume you mean from the railyard in the east end, and not the port;) I was asked for each of the Mazda\'s we\'ve owned whether we wanted to wait to have it trucked over, or were willing to have the km\'s put on and have it driven over. We were even offered to have it flatbedded over at our expense.

Jeff-TheBiz
06-17-2005, 12:19 PM
Actually a train brings it from port (in vancouver), when it arrives in Toronto the dealer has the option of picking it up from the yard normally will save 3-4 days only.

If the car was already delivered to a dealership by the big truck then it maybe picked up and brought to the selling dealer by a \'hired truck\' or by a \'lot guy\' (additional km again).

I had about 41 km\'s on it. I asked why and they stated they had to get it from another dealer lot where cars are stored. The good thing is that I didn\'t find any empty Ketchup packets! That would have pissed me off. And the bastards didn\'t even check my tire pressure! It was set at 45 PSI. It felt like I was riding on stone wheels! When I got home I checked them and adjusted them. Now I have the survey to fill out... And you can bet I will make sure they know how displeased I was!

Funny I get in trouble from our Mazda rep when he does spot checks on PDI\'s and there is less that 5km\'s on them. Our guys are asked to put 3-5km\'s on them to make sure that there is nothing wrong with them and to tet drive them for squeaks and rattel\'s and make sure the drivetrain is fine...alot of time this is where the 5-12kms comes from.

ahhh
07-08-2005, 02:01 AM
mine had 57 km when i first testdrove it. when i picked it up, it had about 67. after we made the deal, the dude put the SOLD sign on it. apparently it was the only 5-speed they had, so it was being used for test drives.

and my air pressures were set to : 3 tires at 54 psi, 1 at 51. i called the salesman, and he told me it should have been checked at PDI time. it wasn\'t.

so far no major probs. only 1 with the driver\'s front auto-down feature. sometimes it seems to go down a quarter way, and i have to hit it again. then other times, it goes down most of the way, and stays up about a quarter. i dunno...when i took it in, they \"could not duplicate\" so they didn\'t do anything with it. I\'ll have to take it in one day, after a downpour, and a soaked interior, as my window won\'t close. oh well.

and the a/c kinda sucks when you need it the most. otherwise, mainly ok

enjoy, and drive safe

Normally if the vehicle is dropped off by truck it will have minimal kms on it.. like 10 or less.

If the vehicle is picked up at the compound by the dealership (saving a week for 'delivery') it will have the distance from the pound to the dealership + ~10...

Thus the case of 35km or so..

most cars before we pick they pick them in the lot in the east end would have roughly 4-8km then car is driven back to the dealer ex MoT the car would have 22kms then 1-2kms for pdi adn gas thats why some cars would have under 25kms in them.I personally drive in customer cars for delivery properly just like the way i want my car to be driven and follow all break in period so this means under 3K rpm shifts. we also clay bar the car when we detail it for delivery and add alot of paint protection for anyone who wants to pay for them

Your sales rep didn't point out the mileage to you? That's cold. I would have complained to Management about that even the next day.

that could be true, b/c thats shortest time to get the car "shiped", ask them for couple free oil change then. if they kind enought, they will give it to you.

Now I am becoming paranoid about this issue.

I live in Ottawa and they say the car will be coming from Toronto. I find this out a week after I ordered it. So does that mean it'll likely be driven from there to here?

That would mean some monkey is going to be abusing it potentially for the first 40% of the "break in period". I know it's not really a break in period, but there are certain do's and don'ts that i figure the car jockey is unlikely to adhere to.

Any suggestions? Should I refuse to take delivery if that's what's going to happen? Are there any industry "norms" for this type of thing?

Jeff-TheBiz
02-05-2008, 06:44 PM
If they have already told you about it and you have accepted, not much you can do now.

If it is from a specific dealership, do a mapquest to see what you should expect.

If it is coming from Mazda Canada's pound, it should be coming to Ottawa by trailer and minimal kms should be on it.

thanks for your quick reply.

i called them on the phone 1 week after ordering it and was informed verbally on the phone as an answer to my inquiry that it is coming from Toronto "sometime next week" so I didn't "agree" to anything as such, I just verbally acknowledged it, hung up and then a few days later started thinking about it.

McGuyver_3

doubt that they will drive it to much possibility for rock chips and what not. dealer told me i was going to have c;lose to 60km on the car because they were going to drive it from the train yard to the dealer i said i would rather have it shipped so i got it with 11km i think
for breakin period i drove mine pretty hard reason being i didnt want to have a shopping cart 2 years later.

02-05-2008, 10:07 PM

I still laugh at what Jeff did for me when I bought my car. He explained to me and my wife that the car would at most have 6 km on it. He even went as far as drawing us a map on a piece of paper that showed the route the car would take from the ship to the storage yard with the distance it would cover. My wife looked at me and rolled her eyes.

4 weeks later when we picked up the car my wife slid into the front seat looked down and said "OH COME ON!" :chuckle

When I went in to deal last Saturday I test drove the M3 Sport that I was eventually going to buy. I had already test driven other ones, both the sedan and sport, and I wanted see how the actual car felt before I bought it. It had 2 kms on it when I got in, and 9 after I was finished with the drive.

I picked it up yesterday so technically it had 9kms on when I did, but I know who drove most of those nine :). I'm half way through my first day with it and can't wait to get home and actually go somewhere. (last night I looked over the manual :P)

4km when I picked up my 09 Mazda3 Sport GS. Trip meter was showing 2.6km however.

On another note, I almost struck a deal for a 2008 VW Rabbit before getting my Mazda. It came with 300km, not to mention the dirt/mud all over both the front and back floor, as well as on the gas pedal and break, and yet the dealership was trying to convince me that was a brand new car. When I asked, they could not give me a definite answer on where the 300km came from. One of them actually told me, "the guys might had taken it for a spin." Right.....to Kingston?

I was having a hard time deciding between a Mazda3 or a Rabbit, well, that made it easy for me. :chuckle

Just wondering how many km\'s were on the car when you took possession?

Ours had 6km on it, and I have no idea why it even had that many to be honest.

its better for your car to have at least more than 10 km . You could get a 0KM that is factory damage.

Anyhow , mine had like 38 000 kms when i pick it up in march this year.

^^ Seems for every 1,000km a new car is driven, you will save roughly $1,000 off the cost of the car..

I paid $25,995 for my Speed3 with 10,950km on it.. the car new totaled $36,000ish after tax and whatnot.. so roughly $10g's off..
