The last couple days I drove my car I've been noticing the passenger air bag light being on. It always says it's not engaged even if the seat-belt is fastened. Should I bring it in to get it checked out?

Is there any weight on the seat? I know whenever I put my school bag on the seat, it'll light up.

"Front passenger seat weight sensors
If your vehicle is equipped with front passenger seat weight sensors, a front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light is also equipped (page 2-29). These sensors are located under both of the front passenger seat rails. These sensors determine the total seated weight on the front passenger seat. The sensors are also designed to prevent the front passenger front and side air bags and seat belt pretensioner system from inflating if the total seated weight is less than approximately 30 kg (66 lb)."
Are you placing anything on the passenger seat that's less than 30kg? If so, the passenger air-bag will be deactivated. Also, if you fasten the passenger seat belt with less than 30kg on the seat, the passenger air-bag will be deactivated.
You may also need the recall on the crash sensor. I had to have mine done... oh... geez I forget 5 or 6 times...

Do you driver around with the passenger's seat belt fastened even if there is no one sitting in that seat?

Don't knock the dude for having an imaginary friend. Not everyone outgrows those...

sp3GT's car is a 2006. IIRC the crash sensor recall was for 2004's only and it's not linked to the passenger air bag light (the one beside the lighter socket). :)

No guys I do not fasten the seat-belt if no one sits there, I don't really have anything on the seat except for a coat.

Ya... forgot it was only 2004's.
It could also be your clock spring behind your steering wheel. I had to have that replaced when I had my sensors replaced. The combination of the 2 were the issue for both my air bag lights on at the same time. I had both lights on too many times.

You guys think I should just wait until I bring my car in for the 16k service. Which is probably in about 2 months.

I wouldn't want to sit in your passenger seat during the next 2 months.
That leads me to this question: does the light turn off (meaning air-bag is ready) when someone (with required weight) sits in the passenger seat?

Thats the problem it's always on even when someone is sitting there. Or else it woudln't be an issue for me, haha.
Then take it in and get it checked out. ;)

I was thinking if it's not that big of an issue I would just wait till my 16k service, since I'm almost at that.

It's been my experience that it's never a good idea to wait when it comes to getting warranty work done on your car.
The issue here is that you never know when some dumbass driver does some stupidness and *knocks on wood* hits you while you're carrying a passenger. Better safe than sorry ...

I wouldnt **** around with an airbag sensor issue
Get that shiat checked out ASAP
Get it checked out. Unless thats a heavy coat ur sensor needs to be checked. I know if I have a bag of milk or some groceries on the seat the light will come on. But a textbook won't set it off. Best bet, get it checked.

Hey guys.. got the same problem. It used to just light up when I first started the car and it would shut off within seconds.
Now it just turns on randomly, sometimes stays on for a few minutes, sometimes just blinks a few times and goes off. Other things comes on with the car, stays on, then randomly shuts off.
I've tried to notice any pattern, but nothing is standing out. I've tried braking and I thought that could be it because it shut off after a stop light once I drove off. But never could replicate that perfectly.
Regardless, long story short. Two weeks ago i've noticed that my passenger side airbag is off indicator turns on randomly and stays on for periods of time instead of for a few short seconds when I started the car as it did before.
I've read this post and there is nothing like my seatbelt plugged in, or any considerable weight on the seat. I'm gonna check underneath so see if anyone my have wedge into the railings where the sensors are apparently, but I doubt it.
Any help would great thanks.

I think either your sensors are bad or needs recalibration
Same issue here, it only happens when it's cold though
